To people who say they don't have the time/money for crafting because of their children, I say I don't have time/money for children because of my crafting.
Priorities, folks.
;) It really is a good thing I started having kids before learning to stamp!
...But is it strange I have pet names for certain stamps? Hmm...
Maybe our stamps and supplies are more like kids than we're willing to say!
(regarding putting zots behind a bow... completely frustrating at times!):
"Why can't you two play nicely?!"
(centering a mat on a card front):
"Ugh! If I have to take you off and start over, you're going to be sorry!"
(heat embossing only to find that there are stray specks now garnishing your card):
"Oh no! I did NOT tell you you could go there!"
They have parenting classes. Maybe they need to have Crafters' Anger Management Programs (C.A.M.P.) :P
OMG... that is too funny! I totally need to go to a C.A.M.P., because I think I've said versions of everything you said! But I'm saving this so my DH knows I'm not the only person who yells at inanimate objects (not counting the TV) like they're children.
LOL, sign me up for C.A.M.P. If a tool rolls off the desk, then it stays on the floor. If it's not going to listen, then it can sit in the corner and think about what it has done. Well, that is until I need it again.
I, too, talk to my "stuff". I have a pair of vintage ice tongs that I keep in my tool tote. When I drop something on the floor, I pull out my tongs and dramatically say...."The claw is coming after you"...

...OK...TMI
ROFL! I think of Disney... it was in Toy Story, wasn't it?
"Ooo...ahhh... the claw!"

This is a good thread as it allows us to vent. I would never dream of saying something negative or rude to anyone so I always find it amazing when people do. I was able to retire early a few years ago and have had more time to enjoy my papercrafting or what I prefer to call "paper artistry". For greater than 30 years I was overwhelmed doing what everything a family and job required that I was usually too tired to spend much quality time on hobbies. Even so, I still made time to read, write, and create in various crafts. It was "my time"! The only negative comments I got would come from a mother who never appreciated anything creative as she was never interested in doing any such thing. She would comment to friends that she couldn't understand how I could spend sooo much time on that "stuff". Needless to say that was while she watches 4-8 hours of TV a day. Just a little side story - when I was a kid, she would turn the card I would give her for her BD etc. over to see how much it cost - the more costly the better the card - now all she sees on the back is a stamping signature. "Handmark (Hallmark) just for you by ________"!
How sad, that someone would consider the price of a card as a symbol of its worth.
If she judged everything that way, she must have had a very unsatisfying life!
My inlaws were very into labels. Had to shop at the best stores. Me, I'd rather spend less and when I'm tired of an item, kiss it goodbye. Well, every Christmas and other gift giving time they would open my gifts to them and immediately look at the label to see if it was a "name". One Christmas I had just had it with them so I cut every single label out of their gifts. They were a little embarrassed - and should have been - and didn't do it again (when I could see it). Rude rude rude. My mother in law would also make a point of telling me all the things she bought for her daughters 3 kids knowing she didn't do the same for her other grandchildren. She NEVER said it when my husband was around to hear it. Sneaky. She just didn't get it that you treat all your grandchildren the same, especially when they're all together and it's obvious who's getting the attention. Used to aggravate the S out of me until one year I just told them off. Warned my husband that I was going to explode and he had no problem with it. Wouldn't have mattered if he did. It was long overdue. So, there are just some people who don't have the brains God gave them.
the family members who have poo pooed my hobby now only get the ugliest store bought cards i can find LOL
and on the other side.....my Mom, a cousin and some close friends all save every lil thing i make them...so THEY get the very best of my work. and i always pay extra attention to the details on their gifties..............
