Soooo me being bored at work and trying to come up with a creative idea to do when i get home ( I'm new at this and I'm hoping that i have stamps in the mail when i get there!!!! ) I was trying to find something to alter. and thus came up with this question.. has anyone altered a coffee can? Im looking at it and unless you have something to fill in the ridges the paper is going to bunch up in them or you would have to use a cardstock like paper. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions......

The only thing I can think of is if you spray paint it or just used acrylic paint and then added a stamped image say to the front? I tried one of the plastic coffee "cans" and couldn't do it with paper either...funny we had such a similar idea!
I'm assuming you are talking about metal cylindrical coffee cans? You could cover the ridges with another strip of paper or ribbon or CS or something, so if you put a layer of patterned paper on the bottom and then place the strips of whatever you choose along the ridges? Would be really great if you were planning on making a coffee can that looked like a bumble bee.
I've altered the big #10 cans before. They have ridges on them, and they still looked fine I thought. They might not be quite as much as coffee cans, though. I'm sure you'll figure out a way to make them work!!
I altered three coffee cans, and I have no problem with the ridges. I cut the SU white wrapping paper to size, decorated it, and attached with mod podge. All three are banks. My two sons decorated their own wrapping paper for theirs (those piggy banks only hold so much), and I decorated one for my Dh's and my vacation fund.

The Feb issue of Somerset Studio mag had 4 pages dedicated to "Tinnies". altered coffee/metal cans. theyare torn out and pinnedto my walls for inspirstion!! They have been semi-flattened so they look like those shabby chic flat metal door hanger things. The theyare painted in aqua, pale pink, shabby white. Then paper is torn and glued around rims in scallop shapes, harlwquin, and just collaged-up!! Different game peices, letters, words, toys etc were made into magnets and put on the cans. Wire was twisted for handles. They are just the coolest! Try to order a back issue from www.stampingtom.com I dont use canned coffee so I am trying to mooch them off friends and neighbos!! LOL
