Smile Clear Stamps

I have purchased quite a few clear stamps from different companies, my question is what is the best ink to use on these and what cleaner is best? I have always used stampin ups but I am finding that some of my clear stamps are sticky what can I do? Thanks so much for any help

That is exactly why i don't like clear stamps - i had one stamp actually rip the top layer of my paper when i tried to pull the stamp away after stamping. I must have been using the wrong inks and cleaner too so I would love to know why this happens.

I have heard not to use Stazon with them as it is a solvent ink.

I've only ever used Close to my Heart acrylic stamps, so I can't give you a comparison, but I can tell you that with anything else, you get what you pay for! ;) The cheaper the stamps, the lower the quality... I just use water-based inks on my stamps, but the trick is to condition them first. You can use a cheap white rubber eraser, and just rub it over the stamp first, or you can ink the stamp, then "waste" the image 5 or 6 times on scrap paper. Once you've conditioned them, you can use any type of ink. I think when people have problems with ink coverage and acryic stamps, it's because they don't condition, and they press too hard. JMHO, but I have noticed a lot of people "improving" with their stamping if they just remember those two things. HTH!

Here are some tips that I think may help.

Depending on the quality of the polymer used for the clear stamps, you may need to condition them, like Anne mentioned above. I've found that Papertrey's images or the Kitchen Sink Stamps didn't really require this. These high quality stamps can take dye inks (like SU's classic ink pads), with only a bit of staining, as a result.

Pigment dyes work well too, as they can completely coat for a good impression. In this case, you don't need to press very hard at all. I use the VersaMagic Dew Drop inks that I purchased online at Doodlidoo (Julie's site).

And to clean them... I've used my stamping scrub pad with a bit of water on it or at the kitchen sink with a bit of soapy water. I don't rub overly hard to clean them, though.

I hope this helps!
Thanks,
lise

p.s. Can you tell I love to on-line shop? LOL!

I use Palette Noir Ink the majority of the time which you can find here. I will occasionally use my SU! inks with my clear stamps, but not as often. I use the SU! stamp cleaner, works great.
