Talking Cleaning Stampin' Scrub

I love my Scrub! I actually have two of them because I'm a demo and I have Stamp Camps and need them in two locations. My question is about how you clean yours. Once I took the pads out and washed them with dish soap (aka Palmolive, Joy, etc) and rinsed them well. But they never did seem to get totally clean. And one stayed kinda sticky where I must've cleaned Versamark off my stamps. Grrr...

Now when I clean my stamps, if I stamp off on white paper after they're "clean", they leave a dingy impression - yuck! I know they need cleaning again - how do you clean them? I've heard of people who put them in the dishwasher, but I don't think I want to do that.

I actually placed an order recently for the refill for the Stampin' Scrub (two new sets of pads for $7.95), so I can just toss the ones I have, but I really don't want to do that. So if you have any suggestions, let me know. I always stamp off onto my grid paper before using the Mist and Scrub, and for the black ink, I often use the YoYo Yellow technique and sometimes I even get out the StazOn cleaner, then follow up with a baby wipe before using the Mist and Scrub.

Thoughts?

Susan

Those are the same things I do and I have the same problem - the scrubber pads are just not clean! I have thought about buying the replacement pads but there is always something I have to have more. LOL

I read a thread in the past where alot of people do put them in the dishwasher. I have not tried it personally. It doesn't seem to be a problem. Maybe that would get them cleaner??

Maybe I will give it a try!

I don't like it when I use my stamp scrub to clean off white ink, it gets everything gray and sticky.

I also don't have a dishwasher, let me take that back, I am the dishwasher. Any other suggestions?

I have put mine in the dishwasher twice. No problems with them and they are really clean. Do not run the drying cycle. Take them out and air dry them. That is what my demo told me and it has worked for me. I had so much black ink on mine and could not get my stamps clean without multiple cleanings. If you are ok purchasing new pads why not try the dishwasher and if you still don't like then go ahead and then buy new ones!

I was using Soft Soap to clean mine. That has a moisturizer in it. When I switched to Dawn dishsoap, it seems to work fine. Not too much. Oh, and most of my pads are craft so I have been trying to stamp off so all that ink isn't going into my pads. It does seem to be helping.

I just wash them in the kitchen sink using a *little* dish soap and the sink sprayer thingie (whatever its called)

It usually cleans the scrub pads nicely.

I just wash mine (real often) in dawn or whatever liquid soap I have. I really don't have a problem getting them clean but I really rub the soap in then rinse them real well and let them air dry. I have had mine for about two years and it still works well.

I am with Jakesmom727--I am also "the" dishwasher! I just hold my Stampin"Scrub pads under running water in our basement utility sink. My workroom is down there anyway. The pads seem to get pretty clean...I just squirt a little Shout on them, rub over with an old toothbrush, and hold under the running faucet. The ink just RUNS out!! Maybe I should clean them more often! ;) Anyway, works for me!

I wash mine after every stamp camp. (they usually get abused) I just wash in the sink with soap and water. It always does the trick and gets it very clean!

Default Stampin Scrub

I don't have a dishwasher either, so I just wash the pads in the sink. You might want to try using the scrubby/rough side of a two-sided sponge for extra dirty areas. I did this when the pads were new to get the linty stuff off of them, and it worked really well and didn't hurt the pads at all. If I did have a dishwasher, I would certainly put my pads in there because I've only heard of good results. Why don't you want to use your dishwasher?

I clean mine in the bathroom sink. I just use handsoap and after rubbing the soap all over and down deep, I take one pad and sorta scrape the other one while holding it under running water. After the water runs clean, I do the other one, and then do it once more "just in case". I then let both pads air dry. I have two so that when one needs cleaning I don't have to wait for it to dry before I can stamp again. This works really well.

For those of you that use the dishwasher, does it mess up any of your dishes, especially plastic ware? or do you run it by itself with no other dishes?

I rinse mine in the utility sink (I stamp in the basement), then throw them in a bucket of hot water with a scoop of OXYCLEAN for 15 minutes (or longer, depending on if I get sidetracked....). Swirl them around in the bucket several times during the soaking period (things float to the top in OXYCLEAN). Rinse well and let air dry.

Any kind of cleaning product that is like Oxy Clean will work well. My dishwashng liquid has Oxy Clean in it and it worked well, though I did have to wash the scrubbers a few times. I let them dry between washings.

I love the OxyClean idea! I usually wash mine in the kitchen sink every night, and set it up open in the sink to dry overnight. Works alright, but I did a ws where we used More Mustard ink and was afraid to show the baby wipe technique for fear of getting "busted" for a non SU product (clean craft ink off stamps w/ a baby wipe first, it's magical!), and the More Mustard is STILL coming out of the pads! I'm going to try the OxyClean tonight!

You can put them in the dishwasher.

Also, try rinsing them off under the sink. I do that everytime after a camp, and I've never had to wash them in the dishwasher.

I have the same question as kimstamper...Those who use the dishwasher, do you wash them with or without dishes?

I put mine in with the dishes and it works wonderfully. I also leave mine in for the drying cycle. They come out a bit warped but putting them back into the case straightens them out right away. I might have to buy a replacement a bit sooner but I am okay with that because I know that I am able to get these pads really clean this way.

I put mine in a lingerie bag in the clothes washer or put dish soap on it and rinse off with the sprayer at my kitchen sink.

Top Rack only of the dish washer after being well rinsed and I make sure that the heat dry is turned OFF. Also make sure your plates are all well rinsed, you don't want food in your scrubber. I did warp one set of the scrubbers back when they were white. Since I wanted to get up to date I just went ahead and bought the black replacement pads.

ok I wash mine with baby shampoo and then rinse in HOT water. Then I throw them in the top rack of my dishwasher. When they come out I rinse again in hot water. I let them dry outside in the sun.

Related question.......how long do the pads last? I've had mine since July. One is permanently stained red (but I'm trying the Oxyclean plan tonite!).

I use it probably 2 days (all day) a week.......

I wash my pads about once a week. I put them in the sink with really warm water & Pine Sol! A year later and they are still great! I did buy a replacement set for workshops, just because I like my "stuff" to be neat & sometimes unfamiliar customers aren't nice to "stuff" that isn't their own! Yes, I'm a little picky. How sad for me!

I just tried soaking them in the sink with dishsoap for several hours. Black still rubbed off on the towel. Then tried some orange cleaner, which got more off. Then tried rubbing Staz On cleaner on them and it worked like a charm. Will have to try the dishwasher and oxy clean methods. Thanks for all the great ideas. jen9853, I'd say that you should show your customers the baby wipe method with craft and chalk pads. Then they could pounce the babywipe on US white and make the background for the card LOL

Sharon,
Maybe it's a goofy question, but they make a Staz on clearner? I must have missed this! Is it in the catalog? I need some!

I have had my scrubbers since they switched to black pads. I have never bought replacements. I wash mine after a class or anytime I have used it with craft ink. I usually just clean it with dish soap and a toothbrush. Every other month or so I will soak them in bleach for a few minutes then scrub with toothbrush, this will help get all of the residual color that doesn't wash out with plain soap. The bleach has done nothing to the fibbers they are still black and have not deteriorated at all. I have used them daily for over 3 years. I have also never taken the pads out of the case. I clean it all together. I set it up like a card in the sink to dry.

They make Staz On cleaner but SU doesn't sell it in the current catalog (we can always hope!). I got mine at Michael's.

I've used a lot of stuff for cleaning stamps over the years. My latest thing is using the "disinfecting wipes" from the household cleaners section at Target. They're cheap, fast, dispoable, don't have fumes, and don't damage anything!!

Thanks for the Oxy Clean idea. I had given up on my stampin scrub. I've been using baby wipes for months. (If you don't dry the stamp before reinking, it has a great water color effect!)

Well...that will get very expensive if you keep buying the refills! :-). I have 3 sets (going back to when they were white pads!). I usually clean them as much as I can w/water and then put a thick Oxy Clean paste on them (I work the paste down to the bottom). Depending on how dirty they are I pre-soak them for at least 30 minutes in color safe bleach - not the regular Clorox (I have been known to get busy with something else and forget about them for a couple of hours though). I have had no problems w/using those products and have been very happy with how clean they get! No sticky residue and no dirty images from the stamps.

Good luck!
