Default Christmas card question

When you make your Christmas cards do you pick one design to do and mass produce the cards so that they are all the same? Or are you like me and feel bad that you have so many Christmas stamps that you need to show your love to all of them and just create?

I come up with a "template card" and then mass-produce. We send out about 100 cards so that's what works for me.

I get all the components ready (cut paper, colored image, sentiment, embellie, etc.) and then just assemble them as I get time.

I work on them while watching sports on TV :p

I get bored after a I make about 2 or 3 of the same thing, so I typically move on to something else. And hey, the more you use to more you can buy, right?

I have not been good at it this year, but I try to make 10 Christmas cards every month and then that way I can make a different design each month.

I mostly make different ones. I make quite a few to fit different challenges here and there. Occasionally if I have a design I really like, I'll make a few the same, but I'd get bored after five or six.

I hate making all of the same card so I make 2 at a time whenever I feel like it and by Christmas I have a TON! I also like sending different ones to different people based on what they like. There are too many cute cards to be made to make only ONE! Plus, I have a TON of stamps that I need to use! Variety is the spice of life!!!!!!!!!!!

I tend to make cards in groups of 8. For me that's just the right number to help me "mass product" but not get bored by the same design. I, too, stamp, cut and get everything ready for those 8, make them up and then move on to the next design I create.
Have fun creating your keepsakes.

I do both. Usually 50 cards the same for husband's work and 30 to 40 all-different for
me to send to friends, family, etc. This year hubby thinks he needs 150 so I'm doing 3 designs, 50 each. He's paying for my next SU! order, BTW!

I made 8 swaps the other day....I thought I was going to die! LOL! I made them kind of complicated so it took forever and I was soooo ready to be DONE when I was done (and before I was done, lol).

:-)

2 is my number usually, lol!

I mass produce one design. I don't actually mail that many cards, but like this year, I am estimating I will need at least 100 for giving to people my DH works with, so I find it easier to make them all the same. Last year, I ran out of cards withouth everyone he wanted to give one to getting one. I always save one of what I have made for that year, so I can keep track of what I have done.

Both I guess. At first, waaaaay before Christmas I make individual (unique) cards. Then as it approaches, I feel stressed and pick an easy one to mass produce for the remaining number of cards that still need to be made.

I make a lot that are unique but they use similar items. I might make 6-12 of one design (assembly line style) but then I need to make a bunch that are unique or I feel like stamping is a monotonous chore.

Thanks for reminding me that I need to start much earlier this year or DH may follow through on his "threat" to send the ugliest cards sold at the dollar store.

Im seriously thinking of skipping mailing out Christmas cards though. Its become such a chore. (mentally)

Some years I've split my list into 2 and sent some Thanksgiving cards and some Holiday cards. Anyone that I missed got a New Year's card.

I too mass produce one design to make about 80 cards each Christmas. Since I never start until December (though each year I vow to start earlier LOL) making more than one desing would just take too much time.

I can't mass produce one design. I get bored and then it feels like a chore. I tend to do about 6 of one design then move on to something else. I've only got about 35 or 40 to make though; and that's if EVERYONE on our list gets a handmade card. Usually I run out of time and about 25 get handmade cards and the rest get store bought.

My problem is remembering who I sent which card design to the previous year. I bought two new SU sets last year; along with the three or so I already had. That could hold me for a few years but I wouldn't want to send a card with the SAME stamp set to the same person two years in a row. If I was careful about making notes I could avoid that. But since I don't I end up buying at least one new Christmas set or stamp each year and try to do the bulk of my cards with that!

Last year, I waited until the first of November to start and I felt stressed. I vowed to start earlier this year and do have 8-10 made so that's a start. I can't mass produce them as the last ones would like somebody's cat or dog had made them so I'll do 3-4 of the same design then in a few days make 3-4 more of the same. Works for me.

I take photos and save them with a filename that indicate the recipient and year. I review this before making cards for the following year.

Since I always use a photo as the main component of the card, I mass produce them. There is no way I am going to come up with 75 different ways to use the Christmas photo!

I make a few cards just because I want to make something different, then I choose my favourite for my "mass production" (if I can call it that when I only do about twelve cards). Those that weren't chosen are put aside for those last-minute cards that I invariably forget about. I have at least a couple of dozen of those.

I make all cards one-of-a-kind. The layouts can repeat but the images, dp and embellishments will be different. This makes the 'production' process easier

I usually find just one special Christmas stamp that I like each year, buy it and plan my card with it. I make them all alike and usually make about 40.

It's a funny thing about repetition, some of us like it and some can't stand it. I love to mass produce cards and find the whole process appealing. But then I like to crochet afghans, too, and you are just doing the same row over and over.

After I make the Christmas cards with the stamp, I pass it along to another stamper who can make use of it as I don't like to repeat designs each Christmas.

I am laughing because most of my craft-related stuff is in a state of "semi-organized chaos" - mostly because I need to see my stuff and there is lots to see (I'm a lucky woman)!

Anyway I am glad my little tip is helpful and I hope we all enjoy making our card design(s).

I design a card and make a lot...if I really like them I might put 2 or 3 in my personal stash...I need many hundreds of cards to support the troops and the other projects I donate to.

My cards are divided into 4 groups (i) immediate family (mom/dad, sisters, inlaws, my fav aunt) - each household gets a unique card and the kids get their own; (ii) people who'd appreciate a handmade card -- I pick a sketch and usually a pack of pattern paper and vary the papers used on each card; (iii) distant family/friends -- they get a CAS/one layer card - these are mass-produced so they're all the same; and (iv) co-workers - I make mini cards using one CAS sketch but changing up the stamp/paper combo . Whew! it sounds like a lot but when all is said and done I've only made about 3 dozen cards.

I stopped doing the Christmas card thing before I got into card making, so my list is quite small. Paying 57 or more cents to mail gets kind of expensive when you are trying to cut back. I still have a few left from the SU workshop that got me started last December. So it should be interesting how I do it this year.

I am like others here, making more than 8-10 of one card bores me to tears. So I tend to make several different cards. I did just make announcements for my sons graduation and I had to do 150 of the same card. I thought I was going to pull my hair out by the end!!!

I tend to make cards that always have colored images, so mass producing one would drive me mad! I have only ever made one duplicate card in all my cardmaking years and that was because I had sold one, then couldn't find it!
If I absolutely had to mass produce cards of the same design, I would move onto a different hobby, LOL!

I've done it both ways too - mass produced a large portion and then did onesies-twosies for 'special' people. Plus I always have individual ones from workshops so that gives me some options. I'm like some of the others and worry about sending someone the same image two years in a row so I try to keep track but I'm not very good at it. This year I actually have almost as many as I need that are leftover from the last few years. I can't decide whether to just use them or start new ones.

Can my answer be E)All of the above?
I do a combination of everything I guess. For a few family members (grandmother, parents, nieces & nephews) I do individual cards. Then the rest of my card list is divided into groups - Family & Friends (aunts, uncles etc.), SCS peeps, co-workers etc. I generally design a card for that group and then more or less mass produce. Sometimes I make slight alterations - like a different piece of dp out of the same pack or red ribbon on some & green on others.
If I had to make individual/no-repeat cards for everybody, I would NEVER get my Christmas cards out and by the time I did, I'd need to start the next years.
When you make your Christmas cards do you pick one design to do and mass produce the cards so that they are all the same? Or are you like me and feel bad that you have so many Christmas stamps that you need to show your love to all of them and just create?
Share the love!!! I usually do about 6 of one set and then switch. Partly because I have the attention span of gnat, and get bored easily, and partly because I have sooo many cute stamps that need to be loved!!

oooyyyiieeeeee........ way to much effort!!! ;-) But a brillant idea!! If it didn't involve soooo much work, I might be tempted.

I also should add that if I don't get all the cards out by Christmas, then oh well, they just become New Year's card!!

I usually start out making one card that I really like. Then I always seem to find something that I think will make it even nicer, so I make some of those. Then I get some other idea or find something on SCS that inspires me, and I'm on to more cards. Things just seem to evolve. I too try to keep one of each card I make with a sticky note indicating which year the card was sent out. I wish I were organized enough to note who got what card, but it just doesn't happen. If I end up with extra cards for the next year I always worry that I'm sending someone the card they got the past year. I guess that wouldn't be the end of the world though!

I used to mass produce but last year I started in August making individual cards. By the time December rolled around, I had well over the 60 cards I normally send out. It was so much more enjoyable to do lots of different ones - especially when you start early.

I used to mass produce but last year I made a variety. I have waaaaayyyyy too many Chiristmas stamps that had been neglected so last year I made a variety. It was fun and it felt good to use more of my stamps. I plan on doing the same thing this year.

Previously, I would buy Christmas stamps all year but this year I didn't do it! I've only bought 6 pieces of Christamas paper and one set of SU DSP. I'm hoping to be able to use up all my old Christmas supplies this season.

I tend to do as many as I can stand of a certain variety and then change the design and go from there. I seem to be pretty good about making cards and awful about actually mailing them!
