Default Cheesy gift idea?

A brief background: My family's all pretty close and a year ago, my cousin (who's more like my sister) had twin girls. She's an only child and my aunt and uncle (her parents) absolutely adore these girls. (As grandparents naturally do!)

My aunt loves all the craftiness I do, but being crafty herself really stresses her out. She has said that she'd love to be able to srapbook the twins, but the idea of doing it herself panics her a bit.

On my side of things...I love these girls, too (how could you not?) and I've been wanting to get into scrapbooking a bit.

Here's what I'm thinking of doing: Giving my aunt and uncle a blank 6x6 brag book and mailing them a couple of pages each month to add to the book. I've talked to my cousin about it and she's more than happy to email me current pics to use. I figure this would kill two birds with one stone - give my aunt & uncle a scrapbook of their girls plus commit me to trying my hand at scrapbooking.

So what do you think? Has anyone done anything like this? How'd it go? What would you think if you received a gift like this?

Oh....and I was going to attach this poem to a gift card in the box with the empty brag book:

You probably think that I’m crazy
These pages are blank as can be…
But this is a gift that keeps giving;
Throughout the year wait to see.

For some days ‘twil be in your mailbox
A fully scrapped page or two.
Your brag book will be filled by year’s-end
As my special gift just for you.

The plans have been made for the photos
To be emailed straight from the source.
For what’s a brag book without pictures?
(And help from your daughter, of course!)

So sit back, relax and enjoy this
Since creativeness stresses you out
The fun is in bragging on grandkids
And that’s what this gift is about.

Thoughts & opinions, please!?

What a FANTASTIC idea! I think it's a great gift idea! I wouldn't give it to them blank, though. You should have at least one page done so that they can have a preview of what's to come. Good luck with your project

I LOVE this idea! What a special way to share the joy of the twins. In case you are in need of some Twin Scrapbook supplies, http://www.scrapbookgenerations.com/ (a local store) has a co-owner who has twins & she has a TON of banners, paper , etc. with the Twin "theme"

Good Luck!

Shaunagroff....I was going to do the first page as a cover page with both girls on it. After that, I'll mail them one page for each girl. So they'll basically get a two page spread with each mailing. Thanks for reminding to get that opening page done!

And Jenna - thanks for that info on the twin stuff!

More thoughts, anyone?

How wonderful! I think this would be appreciated by just about anyone! I can just imagine opening my mailbox and having a few pages to add. And the 6x6 books are so cute and non-intimidating!

Good luck and share with us some of the pages if you get a chance!

I love the poem and think this is an absolutely wonderful idea! A friend of mine did something similar when my husband and I got married. She sent a letter w/ a prepaid envelope to family members & friends to ask for pictures of DH & I together, along with a little something written by the person who was sending it to her. She then put everything together as a gift.

I think anyone would adore a present like that!

It makes a wonderful present. I did a 6x6 brag book for my friend as a baby present, I just did the pages up so she could add the pictures as she took them and she just loved it.

I'm also making scrapbook calendars for my family this year along with books so after each month they can cut off the scrap page and put it in their book. My family lives very far away, so this way instead of just sending them pictures in the future, I can scrap pages for them to keep.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite gifts to give! Easy for them and fun for me!

It's a wonderful gift! I too did one for my brother and SIL when my nephew was born. All they had to do was add photos. They loved it and wanted one for their next child too (which they got ). In fact, they thought I should start selling them because they thought it was a greta gift.

So, go for it. I'm sure they'll LOVE it!

I think that this is a fantastic idea! I tend to procrastinate and need a deadline to push a project to the front of my "to do" list. This goal sounds managable and yet will encourage you to get it done. Fantastic! I should do something similar. Thanks for sharing! Can we use your poem?

A gift such as yours could never be cheesey.

It is thoughtful, classy, and personal.

I did this for my Goddaughter, Niya's, first christmas as a gift to her parents and they were touched. I decorated the pages and while I was there visiting(I live in NY, they live in NJ) we added pictures to the pages. Believe it or not, my friend's husband was more excited about putting the pictures in the book then my friend was - go figure. While I was making the pages, I was kind of at a loss for ideas for some reason, so I made a page with an envelope on each one for her Mom, Dad, Godfather and Godmother to write her a letter and tuck it away in the envelope - when her Dad saw that he had tears in his eyes - again, go figure!! The one problem - I did a 12x12 album and boy is it ever hard to send 12x12 pages - 6x6 or 8 1/2 x 11 would have been a much wiser choice!! It is not cheesy at all - it's a wonder gift to help preserve memories!!

It's a great idea. I'm sure your aunt will be thrilled with the gift-and she'll be surprised month after month with new pages to enjoy.

Sure! It was just off the top of my head, and I'm not 'twil is a real word, but it's there for the using!

Thanks for you encouragement, everyone - now I'm getting REALLY excited about this!!!

I have done this with my brother's family. I started it about two years ago with a 12x12 and a starter of two finished pages from the last time we had been together.

This book is the highlight on thier coffee table and they LOVE it and look forward to getting more pages to add to it. My brother tells me all the time how the kids just love to sit on the couch and look at it again and again.

I love that I get to be creative and work on a project and hobby that I love...and they adore the end result. I think page by page is actually more special than if I had given them a finished album...it is always a "work in progress"!
