I've been a die hard SU! gal for a long time, but have been drawn to all of the fab cards and layouts in the gallery created using Basic Grey paper (gasp!). I'd like to purchase a few (!) sheets of BG paper, but don't really know where to start. They have a great website but the little thumbnails just don't do their papers justice...does anyone have any favorites to share?
Oh lordy.. I am a diehard Basic Grey fan... I have their entire line except Romani and Lily Kate. I buy them from www.embellishonline.com. Free shipping over $45. (very easy for me to go way over $45 lol)
I ADORE BG!!! I love all their lines. I don't think you can go wrong with any of it...lol. My personal fav's:
Blitzen line (Christmas)
Lollipop shoppe(bright and funky)
Urban couture (very fashion oriented with some Asian flavour)
Hang 10 (Hawiian flavour)
Skate Shoppe (great for masculine/ boy projects)
Black Tie (great for Wedding/ masculine projects)
Basic grey has a new line of baby papers (sorry, can't remember the name of the new line) that looks great with the SU bold brights colors and matches several of the SU grosgrain ribbons. It is non-traditional baby colors with bright greens, oranges, yellows and purples so it can be used for lots of things!
One of my personal faves is Phresh & Phunky. LOVE those colors!!! Suggestion: If you're close to a LSS, just go buy a few sheets there. It will be cheaper than buying online and paying S&H. PLUS, you get to see them in person!!!

I think I'm an idiot. All this time I thought basic grey was the color of cardstock and every time someone referred to basic grey, I had trouble figuring it out because it didn't look like grey cardstock. Now am I right to see that Basic Grey is a brand name and they sell designer papers? Holy Cow, I guess I've been hiding under a rock!
I am an SU demo and was a loyal customer before that, but I LOVE Basic Grey papers. If you google (I guess that's now officially a verb!) "Basic Grey, it will give you lots of options to order from.
I used Basic Grey for the big Labor Day weekend challenge; it was from the Oh Baby, boy line; you can see all the stuff I made from one piece here: Gallery at Splitcoaststampers I made this journal with paper from a new line; I know Darleenstamps has some awesome cards made with Basic Grey as do Emilymomto3boys and SweetMissDaisy; If you have a Michaels or a LSS near you, they usually have loose sheets for about .80 a piece (at the most) and very often it's less; great way to try it out with buying a whole set!

I *heart* Basic Grey! To the point where I purchase the papers with all intent to use it and then I hoard it. I've been wanting to use the new baby line with the Wild About You set. Hopefully this weekend!
MIchaels sells a pad of double sided basic grey paper - that might be an easy and relatively inexpensive place to start - especially if you have a 40% off coupon - of course I then purchased a lot of sets on line too!! It IS addictive so watch out.
Hang 10 is not Hawaiian, or at least I wouldn't say it is unless you consider bowling Hawaiian, and very boy colors. Urban Couture maybe. My favorites are Hang 10, just used that on a layout yesterday, Blitzen, and a couple of their older sets.

I love the Romani/Gypsy line!!! I was just at the BG website and when I clicked on the thumbnails I got a larger image that was about 3"x3", and when I clicked on that image I got a large window showing the paper off to very good detail imo. Were these larger images still not doing it for you? Just curious.
Mikes had several different pads of basic grey double sided paper for $9.99 for 36 sheets....I just picked one up this weekend. I just need to get motivated to use it now and not just page through the pretty papers.
You can go to Michael's and get a pad of 12X12 to get you started. I love Basic Grey. I use it soooo much!!! It's only cheating if you're married to the other paper. Don't worry.

Love Basic Grey. It's my favoite line of patterned paper. Usually Jackie at Lifetime Moments has a fairly large supply. Try her website. Fair warning though, it could become another obsession.

Thanks for the tip! I did go back and click on the thumbnail to get a bigger image...very helpful!
Alas, I am a very tactile person and am never happy unless I can actually touch something...as if one piece of paper really feels differently than another! I'll be going to my LSS to see these babies in the flesh!
To the others that mentioned my "cheating" on SU!, let me give you some background: I'm proudly a SU! demo and only spend what I make to purchase additional stamping supplies; I struggle to buy outside the SU! product line (and rarely feel the need to, to be honest!) when I can't use those products to build my bundle of demonstratable stamping supplies! I know I'm not married to SU, but just try to make smart puchases...KWIM?
I know, for sure, that I won't be going wrong with BG! Once I get some paper (and time!) to play, I'll be sure to post what I come up with!
oooohhh...touch the BG paper...it's so thick and lush...you will end up buying tons of it if you go to your LSS and they sell it...it's very heavy weight paper and the colours are so vibrant and have a wonderful distressed/funky look...the picture in my gallery is not very good but I love the sublime line so much that I made 3 16x20 canvases (canvi! - see previous threads on canvi!) using that paper...it killed me to cut into it but it is the MOST delicious paper and based on your beautiful gallery you HAVE to get it!!!!)
Every line is beautiful! Seriously - fabulous, I love them all. Michael's and Joann's are carrying the K & Co (I think) cheaper version of Basic Grey. Not exactly the same paper quality (IMO) but the packs include the same color combos and patterns -- they have an 8x8 pack that is really cheap online at Joann's. If you just want a sampling for cards, etc i agree - find a LSS that sells them and pick up a couple sheets you like...

I too thought this for about 3 months! and everytime I heard someone getting so excited over "basic grey" I was thinking "How exciting can Grey be?"
forgot to mention...go to www.basicgrey.com and click on products, then click on a "line" (try romani to start) and then click on an individual sheet of paper that catches your eye. You can then click AGAIN! to get a larger view and you can even maximize that window to make it take up most of your screen...try the "hippie" pattern on page 2 of the romani line or "circus stripe" on page 2 of the sublime collection.

ooooh! that circus stripe is to die for! I'll be adding that one to my list for sure! Thanks again for the tips!
So THIS is why I don't come to the General Stampin' Talk much! MORE to learn about! LOL! I kept reading this thread & wondering why everyone liked grey so much, too! I'll have to check this out.
I understand the "cheating" thing. It's like me (a Pampered Chef consultant) going into Williams-Sonoma! Though, I generally go to "comparison shop" I always see new cool kitchen things!
