Well, it's that time of the year again, CHA, and Tim releasing his new stuff. Darn that man, all my good intentions for buying less stuff have gone straight out the window, and we're only into day 3 of the sneak peeks!
I can see many, many stamps being bought, those mini crazy birds are a must have. And they have matching thinlets. A lot of the stamps shown today have grabbed me, not so much the background ones, but all the rest, lol. Loving the stencils too. A whole bunch of the thinlets from yesterdays post got me too- cogs, numbers, alphas, butterflies. And all that ideology stuff from DAy 1!
Oh well, here goes-
' My name is Shaz, and I'm a Tim Holtz addict'.......
I would normally be with you on this but I have to say I am so excited about Tammy Tutterow's new line with Spellbinders! I am loving the sneak peeks she had on her blog.
I can't wait to start seeing some pictures from the show! First time in a long time I am excited about this years CHA show.
Avery Elle Day 1: (I did not see a link to Day 2, so I had to change the 1 to 2 in the address bar) Avery Elle: CHA Previews - Day 1
Looks like balloons/balloon animals are going to be this year's new "thing".
What other trends are you seeing with this year's releases?
Post your links here so we can follow along!

Reason: edited to remove an accidental sad face from this happy post!
Actually, this might be the link to follow. Scrapbook.com has put together an ongoing list of CHA sneak peeks dating back to the beginning of December: CHA Mega Show 2016 Sneak Peeks - Scrapbook Update
I'm pretty safe so far with Tim's new releases (whew!). Have to get the mini crazy birds stamp set and sizzlets. And Melissa if he got crazy dogs, I'll preorder right now LOL

I think Tim should have named these "Scaredy Cats." Look at those expressions! I'm imagining all kinds of cards with those cats and the smaller birds.
And I can just imagine the price tag on a set of 51 dies...
So far, the only thing I really want is the Basic Grey 6" Hillside paper pad.

I do like the sentiment "someday someone will hug you so tight all your broken pieces will come together" or something like that. Sheesh. 1 min and already I cant all of it. What a nice concept.

Take heart, ladies. I quickly figured out that I just cannot justify getting dies to cut out specific stamps. My fixed income budget can't handle it.
I "fussy cut" a lot of images for my cards. No, they are not as perfect and uniform as with a die. And it does take a little longer. I famously tell people who say, "that takes so much time" that I didn't take up a hobby to save time!
And imperfections are part of the charm of a handmade card. Do we really want them to look like they were made with a machine - or hand made with love?
Also guess what? As with most things, you (I) get better with practice. So I just cut away, and if I'm not happy with it, I can stamp another image and do it over!

So, I look at all the sneak peeks and get excited for new products. Then what? Magically reopen all the closed LSS so I can actually buy the products? If only . . .

I also will fussy cut depending on the image. I find that sometimes if you heat emboss your stamped image it gives a better edge to cut around. I am not good with leaving a halo because I learned how to fussy cut many years so doing Paper Tole which has served me well, it just seems I get a better result this way.
I think for example, I would not pay for a die to cut out a balloon. I prefer my balloons to look like balloons.lol

Me, too! I have exactly ZERO matching stamp/die sets. And I don't feel the least bit deprived.
1) I can't afford to buy a bunch of dies.
2) I prefer my images cut on the line.
3) I rather like fussy cutting, except when there's a lot of detail.
4) Dies don't do detail.
I did not realize those birds were minis. Hmmm.. Crazy cats, worried little birds. Maybe I'll have to give those birds another think. LOL

Another reason I don't have the matching dies for stamps...I've seen lots of comments about how hard it is to line up the stamps with the die cuts!

Well, speaking of matching dies and stamps, I LOVE mine. And since I got the MISTI, lining up the stamps with the diecuts is a piece of cake.
And in that vein, when I said at this point, I only wanted the BG paper pad... I lied. Or rather, I forgot, but how could I forget? The Vagabond 2 is on my wishlist.

I bought the matching dies to the Crazy Birds, and I have to say they are amazingly easy to line up, and they cut out perfectly. And I just do the lineup by hand- no Misti or other gadgets. So I will definitely be getting the dies to go with the mini Crazy Bird stamps.
Once again some companies have better results with their dies. For instance I purchased a couple of flower stamps and dies from Heartfelt Creations, worked like a charm the way all dies should.
Unfortunately some companies have to give you lessons on how to line up their stamps and dies.
Just like some companies produce dies that don't need any number of techniques or shims to cut intricate dies, there are others that give us headaches, going back and forth doing this and that...go figure.

I was going to pass on these when I originally saw them; but when I read his blog about the reverse images, whoa...... lots of possibilities came to mind of what you could do with them! What a clever marketing tool to get more bang for your buck with a creation. And for us as the consumer, lots of creative opportunities now with these two sets - I'm impressed!!!! Then, add those cute cats to use the extra goodies, love it!!!!
Lawn Fawn does the same thing with their stamps and dies. Nice to know when you buy a new stamp, the Santa hat from a previous stamp will work on the new. I agree, way to market and more bang for your buck. Wish more companies would do this.
Good Lord, I'm not on Instagram much but I'm almost fainting at some of the pics. Distress woodgrain card stock? Distress Crayons?!!! Tim Holtz sticky-back fabric? Tammy Tutterow using elements in her vintage collection and even her house floorboards for stamps and dies for Spellbinders?! Good thing I'm not invited to this thing because I think I would be hyperventilating... and it's only just begun...
I preordered the mini crazy birds and things, the crazy cats, the vintage autos, the patchwork background, the doilies, then also the treeline and the cityscapes.
I'm not sure if you are all familiar with Kristina Werner, but I did see that she drew the Crazy Cats. And I'm pretty sure she's the designer of Crazy Birds also. Totally makes sense that she did the cats, since she has 2.

To the best of my knowledge, she designed the accessories stamps that followed the initial Crazy Birds stamp set. I don't know if Tim or someone else there designed the original stamps, but they're pretty great
