Default Best way to close gift card holder

Hi ladies,

I'm making gift card holders and need a good way to close the flap on them. The only ways that come to mind are velcro or magnets - has someone come up with a better solution? By the way, I also tried letting a spot of liquid glue dry and then sticking the flap down but that doesn't seem to hold for very long.

Would love to know if there's a better way! Thanks in advance!

You could tie them close with a ribbon or a belly band? I did a belly band on this gift card holder:

Really cute holder, Michelle. I agree with using ribbon or a belly band. I've tried the velcro dots and magnets. They are difficult to attach, and don't hold very well.

The magnets are heavy and expensive, and the velcro holds so well to itself that it pulls off the holder when you try to open and close it.

Depending on the design of the gift card holder, you can also cut notches in your base cardstock to tuck in the front flap corners. Or punch out a piece of paper and pop it up on dimensionals/foam dots to give you a spot to tuck in the corners. Similar to how you hold closed a joy fold card.

I love the holder, Michelle! I don't like using velcro or magnets either, so I really wanted an alternative.

Thanks for the ideas! I'm thinking ribbon might be the best bet for this design, but I will keep the other suggestions in mind for others as I think gift cards are going to comprise the majority of my Christmas shopping this year!

These are really cute and made like ornaments to hang on the tree. You turn them over and there is a pocket in the back for the card. They are shown made with felt, but I think they could easily be made with paper. Just an idea for you.

One is a tree, just a simple triangle shape, and the other is an owl. I think there is a tutorial someplace about using punches to make a cute owl.

credit cards/gift cards and magnets don't mix. I would use something else just to be sure that I don't mess up the magnetic strip on the back of the gift card.

You can also purchase removable glue dots. These are just enough to keep the gift card in place and when the receiver pulls up the gift card, the glue dot won't rip the paper underneath! I first learned about these when I purchased by accident and couldn't figure out why all my embellishments kept falling off! LOL!

The last one I made used a paper clip with a little washi tape flag on it.
