Default Ask Beate - Smelly Cardstock

I received a great tip about this weeks Ask Beate Question from Cathi:

Quote:

Another suggestion for the musty smelling cardstock is to place in a closed container with newspaper. Keep changing newpaper until the smell is gone. Works for musty shoes and smoky clothes, I figured it would work for musty cardstock.

Another tip from Gayle:

Quote:

try layering your paper in kitty litter, this absorbs odors and is great for removing odors in basements and when you have to move i put a nylon stocking filled with kitty litter (dustless kind) and tie it to the inside of the fridge, leave it in there until your move is over. this prevents musty odors and moisture from forming in your dormant refrigerator. even old furniture with musty odors can benefit.

Hmmm... wondering if this will work for a microwave that reeks of burned smell. It's so bad that we now microwave on the back porch!

I've been washing it down with vinegar and putting a fresh bowl of vinegar inside every three days for the past two weeks but it's still bad. I'll try newspaper and kitty litter before I toss it in the trash.

Try some baking soda on the microwave too before you toss it. Mix it with some water and then microwave it. Just make sure the water doesn't all evaporate.

Melissa- I have put newspaper in my microwave and it does help with odors. I'd leave it in for a few days changing it out occasionally. Good luck!
