I can't stay out of the stores, but last year I started only going in with a set amount of cash (can NOT bring in credit cards or checkbook -- just don't have the will power :(). So far it's worked for me.

Well I think i've done pretty good so far! I had my club last weekend (15 minimum & a $5 class fee). I only ended up spending $23 total!!!
How awesome is that! Of course it certainly helps that i'm not crazy about many sets out of the new caddy. So the majority of my purchases have been accessories (actually all of them have been).
I got a pack of purely pom paper & a pack of Cerise DS paper.
I seem to have fallen off the wagon. I happened upon Frugalities.com again yesterday and saw the sale was for 49% off.
Hugs to you... I know it's so hard. I just can't even let myself check there. It's too much temptation, and then I figure as long as I'm paying shipping I should just get everything that I can think of that I need or want... that kind of thing is my downfall.

Great job! I'm impressed. I am going to a stamping class at the LSS next week and I'm scared about that. It's going to be hard to walk out with nothing.

Doing well so far! Was in a town far from home on a two day get away with the family, saw a LSS and walked PAST it! Didn't want to face any type of temptation.
And you're right, ebay and frugalities are both brutal! I cannot even click on them or I'll be doomed.
I"m already there.... I've been on a "stamping diet" for 3 weeks now -- that's pretty good for me :-) Hopefully I'll be able to be "shopping free" for at least another month!! lol -- your thread started said it all!!
Your thread got to me. I know that I spend a lot on stamping, but I've always been able to justify it (yeah...right). This hobby is strictly for pleasure. Since your first post I have taken stock of what I have. I don't need anything. I have since made 8 cards in the past week and that's more than I've made in six months. I'm with you....but I'm weak!
I am so bad...I bought a Bind it all 2 months ago and haven't even used it - not even read the directions - shhh don't tell...
I did promise my self not to buy any more stamps from this catalog... I haven't even inked up what I preordered.
then prima had to go and have a BOGO sale and I stocked up (I have enough flowers to last 2 lifetimes...
then last week I walked in Micheal's and they had tons of Martha Stewart crafts on sale for a $1 to $2...so I bought everything they had left...OMG, I hid the bag in the closet from DH..

HELPPPP, I Have issues!
I am almost sure you did not inform us of the prima sale before starting this spending diet and should therefore be required to share those flowers!!
I have no idea how to even get them since you need to be a wholesaler to order directly from them. Must be fun though.
With getting ready for my wedding (I borrowed the stamp set for my invitations), a move, and a job hunt in our new area, I don't have any $$ for new stampin stuff and no time to stamp, so my stamp stuff is basically packed.
Now...once I get moved in and the honeymoon is over, the pledge may go out the window. :0
I am ready to join. I have to start using what I have already bought. I am going to subscribe to the thread for updates. I hope to save enough to pay cash for a disney vacation. I was hoping to go in 2008, but my dh and I decided to wait until 2009. We went to Florida last summer and I am hoping to go to California. I think I will do okay with a goal in mind. I love the cash idea! I am so good about paying the credit card bill in full every month, but still do I need all that I buy?
I am taking a class on Sunday with Tim Holtz, I hope not to buy too much, I will only take a small amount of cash. At least the class is paid for and I get to see Tim Holtz!
Thanks for the chance to save!

Wow! It's like you posted this and I can't STOP shopping now! Hee, hee! Thankfully I never buy anything I don't have the cash for, so there is no credit card debt because I just "have to have". Another thankfully.....DH makes really good $$$! PHEW! AND he knows that my hobby keeps me sane! Like he said....."It's WAAAAY cheaper than therapy later on, AND you have something tangible to show for it!"
PaperTreyInk...coming for ya tonight! Already did my "monthly" shopping @ StampingBella! Bought my Stamps for a Cause from GinaK. What a good girl I am! Oh wait.....this was a NO SHOPPING challenge?

I am a member of a group, the owner of the group does the ordering(wholesale from companies) and passes on the savings to us...by her doing group buys she gets really good deals! If you would like to know more information im me and I will be glad to pass it on to you....
oh, and you want some of my prima's...I don't mind, I have tons now! Do ya live close to me????
I'm crumbling! I have shopping carts going at three different places online. And I keep adding stuff because really I only wanted one thing but then why pay shipping charges that are so high just for one thing when if you add other stuff shipping doesn't really go up much?
I have never been one to really use credit cards, so that is not a problem for me.
Just last week, I actually went and cleaned out my craft room and found out all the things I have that I NEVER use. Well, I bought them with good intentions...hmmm.
So, I am in the process of listing all my retired stamp sets (and other miscellaneous crafty items) on Ebay to make some extra money to spend on new stuff! (see my signature, LOL!) I figure that is a good way to recycle my money.
Then I don't have to feel bad about spending money out of the checking account!
I have the same issue with online shopping! Do you need everything in your carts? I am not one to talk I crumbled yesterday.
But today is a new day and I did not buy anything today, not even my usual iced coffee.

Actually, there is one stamp I really, really want. But if I buy it, I pay over seven dollars in shipping . . . so I added more stuff. It is still in the cart though and has been sitting there for three days. If I leave it long enough eventually I won't NEED it so much!
Okay, off to practice my self control deep breathing exercises again.
Peggy Sue,
How is it going, I crumbled on Sunday so I am not one to talk. Let us know what you decide.
I am extending the no shopping to all areas for a little bit, unless it is an absolute necessity we are not buying it. So far so good-we are on day 2.

BUT! September is a new month! Coming around the corner soon!
I ordered the stamp I had in my shopping cart but took out all the other stamps that I had added in to keep it company and got some eyelet containers instead. Which will be very useful considering the eyelet swaps I've participated in that leave me with little slippery baggies of eyelets in the cupboard . . . really. This is useful storage. LOL!
(and I won't mention the Art Institute glitter I have coming either. Nope! Won't talk about it!)
Maybe I need a fresh start for September, too. I stumbled across Paper Mart yesterday... so many colors of organdy at incredibly cheap prices... my credit card just leapt right out of my wallet. :( And tomorrow I'll be at the LSS for a card class and I already know I'm coming home with some ink and CS so I better not even bring that credit card in with me. Yikes.
I fell a little yesterday too. I was right around the corner from a LSS in Plano, and just HAD to stop in. I bought 3 UM cowgirl stamps, each about $5. Not too bad! But Back on the wagon this morning, have to be frugal!!

Those things just all seem so appropriate in the same post! LOL! You're from Texas, of COURSE you have to buy cowgirl stamps!
O.K. I was reading about all the cute $ stamps Joann's had for fall and Halloween. I went there with my 10 year old daughter and she kept me to just one stamp. A cute little spider on a web. A dollar isn't that bad is is Ladies?
One dollar is great! Good for you. I guess my kids aren't old enough yet to keep me in line. ;) Although I will say that it's a good deterrent for going to LSS's that they are such maniacs in those stores that it's just not fun.
I am *so* bad!!! I haven't bought anything online, but I have been to Michael's, Hobby Lobby, and even to JoAnn's - which is WAY out of my way.
Now this is really, really sad...but I had a 40% coupon for Mike's. I looked at their stamps, didn't see anything that I really wanted - didn't need any ink, paper, etc. because I felt I had enough - but that coupon could NOT go to waste, right? I ended up buying one of those Xyron sticker-maker things. I have no clue why. Just had to spend that coupon!

Does it count if I used a gift certificate? I had one to a brand new sb store in town, I have had it for a few months so that was good. Also we went to Walmart, and the grocery store and stuck to our list and I had 2 of my sons with me!

Well, I'm realizing that I was way overestimating my willpower when I said I wasn't shopping till Christmas. No way was that going to happen - I think I was going through withdrawal and let's just say the last couple weeks have been not so good. So my new goal is to stay out of any stores/web sites that sell stamping/scrapping stuff until the last week of September when I take my next Christmas card class at the LSS. I'm almost guaranteed to want to come home with something that night, so it will be my reward if I make it until then.
I was actually doing pretty well - but then realized that frugalities carried Bazzill. I've been waiting for it to go on sale at A.C. Moore, but instead I put in a big order and restocked. Will I use it? Definitely!!! But I can't say it was truly needed, either. But I will say that I've been better overall. I've been really tempted by the new PaperTrey floral set, but have get to take the plunge.
I am doing really well. I haven't spent anything since I got back from the Scrapbook Expo 2 weeks ago. I even went to Ben Franklin's Friday night with a friend and I did not spend anything. Woo Hoo!!!!
I also mounted and used one of my stamp sets. Only 50 more to go before I can buy another
