i have tried it and much to my surprise it worked - it will be perfect for stampin up eyelets as they need to be soft enough to squish with the pressure of your hand - i found it easier to stand when i did it
I have a silent eyelet setter, which my DH gave me for Christmas in 2002. I don't know if this is the same one you saw advertised or ont. Mine is from American Tag Company (Model: Home Pro LR). I love it and don't know how I ever lived without it. I use it nearly every day and it is wonderful. It allows for different sized eyelets (although I usually leave it on 1/8" as that's what I set mostly!) It is very, very heavy; so not a mobile tool; but I do strongly recommend them.

This isn't the same because the silent setter is by provo craft and it is VERY lightweight and portable. It even comes in a nifty little carrying case a little bit bigger than an eyeglass case. Just thought I'd let you guys know that.
I've never heard of it. Can it be used the middle of a large sheet of cardstock? I use the 1/8" hand punch for mini eyelets, then the 1/16" to squish them down. It only works for as far as the punch reaches into the paper, but I love doing it that way.
Here is the company that makes it & you can read about it. I'll try to attach a picture from the website so you can see it. http://www.provocraft.com/products/i...php?cl=pctools
I haven't used one, so not sure how it works. Looks cool!
Just saw it demo'd and got a chance to play with it. It works and no noise. I just ordered it from Creative Express(along with new Coluzzle Templates). It was $17.99.
I have actually TRIED the 1/16" hole punch to set eyelets; I cannot get it to work.
I had another 1/16" hand-held (VERY old) I tried to do the same with, and it would warp the eyelets/disfigure them in the setting process. I quickly gave up on that idea and invested in the Fiskars 1/16" and was very upset that I couldn't even get it into the flange to set the eyelet. It's as if the punch protrudes just long enough that I cannot get it over the eyelet flange at all.
Granted, I have the SU! eyelet "stacks"--perhaps the flanges are now manufacturered a hair shorter and the method will work?????, but I'm certainly not going to reinvest in all new eyelets when I have so many from those old stacks to use up . . .
I actually bought that darn 1/16" hand-held because everybody was so gung-ho about this method. I'm one of the unlucky ones for whom it does NOT work! So, it's very difficult for me to recommend that method to anyone, given my personal experiences . . . Plus, there's the whole reach issue, too . . .

I saw a similar tool at a cropping weekend called ready-set-tool. It was also a silent setter that worked great, but they wanted $40.
I saw the one everyone is talking about in a scrapbook magazine and was cruious on how well it worked. Now I just have to hope one of the stores in my area carries it.
Rubber Stamper spotlighted an eyelet tool which sounds similar but it's called CLIKIT and sells for $39.99. The ad says it's "a three-in-one tool that lets you set eyelets without the noise and labor." Apparently this one comes with 10 "interchangeable tips" including a lacing tip that punches two small holes simultaneously, a starter set of eyelets and a punch pad -all in a wooden box.
I've been planning on looking into these with the thought of getting one.
I guess the question is...which one is the best to invest in?
Thanks for this thread...I'll keep watching for others' comments.

I just bought the silent setter made by provocraft yesterday. i tried it out and like it. It's quiet. I used to hate having to lug out the hammer, something hard to pound on, the setter, the hole punch. Now it's all in one little case and is easy to use.
My only problem is the zipper broke on the case when i tried to zip it closed last night.
I recently bought the Clikit because it sets and embosses too. I tried eyelets the other day and loved it. I haven't embossed with it yet. It also punches holes.
I got it for $32 on Ebay. I asked the seller a question and she steered me to her store where it was cheaper.
I hope I love it. Time will tell. It really does a great job with the eyelets so far. You can hear it when you use it. Ha!
Where do you buy these? Do they carry them at Michaels & Joann's? Or do I need to order from the website? I hardly ever use eyelets b/c the only time I have to work on cards is when my 2 year old is sleeping & I can't hammer b/c it would wake him up! The few times I've done eyelets, I had to go out into the garage during his naptime. What a pain! Let me know where you can get the silent setters. I'm very excited about this!
My daughter and I tried it the other day and I wasn't impressed with it as I thought I would be. I did have a lot of tools with it but when we used it at the store it was not silent at all. It is easier to use if you stand up and do it because you really have to push down much harder and when we pushed it we had to use it twice to get the eyelet to lay flat. I think I will stick with my old setter and small hammer, it's much quicker for me. Always try it out if you can so you can get the feel of the new Silent Setter before you buy.
Iused it for the first time this weekend and I absolutely LOVE it! I used the one from Provocraft...it was $19.99.
I was immediately sold on it! It is absolutely quiet. It takes no pressure at all to use. I was expecting to have to press hard...not so! The tips are magnetized so they pop right in the end and don't fall out. SO EASY and SO QUIET!
It's definitely a MUST HAVE in my book!
It comes with the tool, 3 hole punches, 3 setters, a mat, the case and a little container of eyelets. I think it's a great deal and I say RUN, don't walk, to get one of these cool tools!
my 2¢

I'm going to have to see if the Silent Setter I used was Provocraft at the scrapbook store since I thought it was very hard to push and it wasn't silent.
I saw 2 silent setters for sale in the latest Paper Wishes catalog: the Click it one that sells for $39.99 and the Home Pro style for $19.99. The Home pro one is only for the small eyelets since it is like a hole punch that punches and then sets the same eyelet. I saw the one from Provocraft here for discussion so now which one is best and where can I get the Provocraft one online at a reasonable price with reasonable shipping? Thanks in advance!
Susan
Is the Provocraft one also silent & easy with SU eyets? Not just the ones that come with it?
Yes! Our eyelets are very soft.

Great! One last question - Is the setter an "anywhere" punch?
Thanks so much for all the info! Y'all are awesome!
Yes. If you go back up the thread and look at the picture, you can see the six tips. Three are hole punches and three are setters... 1/16", 1/8" and 1/4".
The tool is magnetized so the tips fit right in the end of the tool. The magnet is strong and holds the tip in place securely.

Here's a thread from the Two Peas message board with a little additional info about the Silent Setter. (i.e. How to use it and using if you have carpal tunnel)
