I've seen the clipboards, read some directions, bought things I would need to make this. Here is my duh huh moment and I hope someone can clear it up for me . . .
Why do you decorate the top, why not the bottom with the papers? While I see some lovely clipboards, I get the impression they are supposed to be usable and if you have layers of paper, ribbon or twill on them how can you use them for writing? Are they just supposed to hold papers and not be written on? Are they sort of a message center or place to hold "stuff" until you get to it? Help me understand this.
Most are intended to be mainly decorative. Perhaps to clip a photo on for display. I made one (did not post to gallery) that was paper & stamping only. It was intended to be functional as a clipboard.
I have one decorated at the bottom. It has a post it note & also a piece of corkboard with thumbtacks. While I don't think you could write on it with a full sized piece of paper - you could use a smaller piece.

Thanks.
If you don't use to much as far as 3-D embellishments, maybe just ribbon, fibers, and a hodgepodge or two, it shouldn't be a problem to put a pad of paper on it to use it for writing...like a legal pad, with cardboard on the back.
If you wanted it to be a functional clipboard, couldn't you do the back as people have done the front and perhaps have matching papers on the front? Would that work? I realize it you do the back, then you risk the embellishments being caught and coming of if handled to roughly.
all the clipboards in my gallery are intended to be functional - they are simple - just like beate's with scrapbook paper on the bottom half, stamped on the top half and a relatively flat piece of ribbon over the join. they aren't lumpy.
I can see how the yours would be functional. I've only looked at the front page of your gallery so far, so I will continue to look. I love Miss Wilson's clipboard it looks awesome. I like the turquoise ones a lot too.
My idea is to use a jr. legal pad on a full size clip board. i will decorate where the legal pad isn't. If that makes any sence. I plan on putting magnets on the back to use as a message board on the frig. The paper can be refilled.
I plan on making about 8 for Christmas presents.
