Hi Kelly,
I do believe the hostess of this challenge was stating she has friends who are beginners and she hoped everyone could make cards with the paper piecing technique to show to her friends. I don't know about a Beginner Forum here on SCS. That would be a good thing!

We do have the tutorial section with instructions for techniques. They often have videos to watch.

Here is the one for Paper Piecing

Basically, you stamp your image on cardstock and then on patterned paper. You cut out the portion of the paper image that you want to glue onto the cardstock image. Instead of coloring your image, you apply color with paper.
