***************CHALLENGE DESCRIPTION*******************

Hope you all are LOVING the Falliday Fest! I live on the border of Minnesota and North Dakota. When it is the dead of winter, and it is SUPER cold, we sometimes get hoarfrost, or we sometimes even get freezing rain. What is hoarfrost you say? It is a grayish-white crystalline deposit of frozen water vapor formed in clear still weather on vegetation, fences, etc. But, it is absolutely gorgeous, and nearly impossible to photograph to capture all the beauty. We call it "snow diamonds". When we get freezing rain it is very dangerous (obviously) but it is even more beautiful than the frost. Imagine looking at the trees and snow drifts and having them just sparkle in the sunlight like they are covered in fairy dust. That's what it looks like. So.....

My challenge is to create a snowy winter scene and make it look like snow diamonds. Use glitter, sparkly embossing powder, stickles, or anything else to make your scene sparkle like you are looking at a North Dakota landscape after a January freezing rain. :rolleyes:

I'm so glad you all are enjoying my challenge! I wish I could capture the beauty of the sparkle from the freezing rain leaving wonderful ice crystals on everything and how they glisten in the sun. I truly is a wondrous sight to see. I can stare at it for hours (usually from inside through a window as it is absurdly cold when this happens, lol).

Great challenge, Yvette! We have that happen here in N.E. Ohio, and it is beyond words stunning. So many times I've tried to photograph those sparkling trees, fences, and foliage, but it's not the same as seeing it for real!

I remember snow diamonds from our years living in Montana- oh so beautiful! I used a cute SU stamped image, adding 2 dc panels to my card, along with some washi tape in a pinwheel pattern. Created some snowflakes with household foil and a CM snowflake punch. Added two metallic brads, and a filmy ribbon/sparkly cord treatment. Finished with sparkly turquoise powder applied to a sticky background for my side panels. Here's FF16Stampingcrazy Joy to the world

Being from Qu�bec, Canada, I know all too well about pretty snow. :rolleyes: The pictures are really pretty, but also reminding me that this is what's coming up around the bend... Today was 29 Celcius with humidex, though, so pretty hot for October! Let's hope this nice weather lasts...

I love glitter! Really should use it more. I've never seen hoar frost but it looks really cool! My brother lived in Minot for seven years and I don't think he really got it in the city. I used to love visiting (just mostly in the summer).

I should always go back and reread before I get started....I wrote down snow/glitter and lost track of the scene part of the challenge so my card is completely focused on snowflakes. It's really glittery/shimmery IRL.

My favorite memory is the first time I visited Niagara Falls (American side), it was @ 9pm, winter and the mist of the falls crystallized the trees and the park lights just glistened off of the branches. As I think back, I'm still a little breathless. My husband (fiance at the time) was stationed in Buffalo and this was the first time for each of us, pure magic! Thank you Yvette for this challenge!!

Although my card doesn't reflect the beauty of hoarfrost, I was delighted to finally try the dryer sheet technique.
