Summer 2014 Clean & Simple Design Team Search
The World of Make Believe
To enter the competition for this Clean & Simple DT search , make a cas card for the first challenge AND link it and two of your favorite cas cards already in your gallery. Link all three cards in the same post in this thread.
Who can play for a DT spot? Anyone except store owners and past CAS DT members. (But you can play just for the fun of a challenge.)
There's been a small change do mostly to the holiday weekend and I liked how last time there was a whole week for each challenge round. There will only be 2 challenge rounds for this season's DT search.
Calendar of Events
DT Challenge #1 posted Monday, May 12 @ approx. 8:00 PM (ET)
Challenge in post #3
#1 Due Sunday, May 18 @ Noon (ET)
DT Challenge #2 posted Monday, May 19 @ approx. 8:00 PM (ET)
Challenge in post #4

Design Team Reveal Party
Thursday, May 29 starting @ 8PM (ET) right here in this clean & simple forum.
Standard Expectations for a DT member: I need you to post your sample for each challenge on Sunday evening between 8:30 PM-10:30 PM (ET). In the case of an illness, emergency or a short vacation, you will have time to make your cards ahead of time and I'll save them to attach to the challenge thread. You will be participating in choosing the challenges for the season during your 2nd week as a DT member. When the season is ending and a new DT search is going on, I would like you to help with the judging.

TIP: This is a contest for CLEAN & SIMPLE. I tend to push the definition once in awhile with my own cards, but when judging for the design team, I lean towards the conservative cas designs.
Advice: Please remember that everyone who participates wants very badly to be on the design team. The reason why I started the guest designers was so that more could get involved. That said, there will always be disappointments. Please remember it also comes with more opportunities. This happens every 3 months. Four times a year is great for this type of event! To do it more often would be too stressful. These events take a lot of time and I love doing them. And it's easier and happier when everyone is a good sport. I do this for YOU! (In fact, the cas challenge was the very first challenge to have a design team!) I want as many people as possible to experience being on the team. Some people may have to wait longer than others, but waiting builds perseverance and strength. Please have fun!!!
Photos: Please remember the clearer the photo of your card is, the better it will look. Make it stand out and make us say "WOW!" Photo software programs have editing options. The most important ones for me are the lighting and sharpness or it may be called tone curves and clarity features.

What is CAS?
CAS is an acronym for Clean and Simple.
It's all about the design .
* not the technique
* not the tools
* not the embellishments
It's all about the design.
* Uncluttered
* lots of white or open space
* one main focal point
It's all about the design .

CHALLENGE #1 - Faux Stitching
I "learned" to sew in the 7th grade. My mom has tried to teach me to sew. My mom was such a perfectionist that the inside looked just as good as the outside. When she was younger, she sewed beautiful brides' maids dresses and prom dresses. She didn't just sew clothes, she made quite a bit of money sewing and selling Care Bears in the 80s. Anyone remember the Care Bear trend?
While she loved to sew, I always found it boring and time consuming. And I wasn't very good. Seriously, buttons fall off. So, when it comes to sewing on cards, I go faux!
Techniques: there are different ways to do faux stitching. You can see the examples along with sample cards in the attachments at the end of the post.

I'm in! My mother used to have a small home based business as a tailor when I was very young. My sister still sews clothing for herself and her children. My mother has a fancy new machine, and I have her old sewing machine, from the 1960s. I keep my guillotine paper cutter on the wooden desk that houses the machine. I used to make costumes for myself, but my skills are limited.
Faux stitching is such a fun technique to use on a card, and I never think to do it. Great challenge, Jen. I have a piercing template and piercing tool, but they are neglected.
Good luck everyone! Since I'm away from the internet too much through out the summer months I can't be a reliable participant in the challenges. But I hope to see the new design team's work as much as I can. Have fun!
The extension was a nice surprise. I would love to give it a try and will try to get my entries in.

I agree! I had planned to try out but unexpected family responsibilities prevented me from getting my card made by the deadline yesterday - it's nice to have the extended time to play along : )

So glad to see the extension that was given for the first challenge. I would have needed it had I waited until the weekend to do my card. My router broke Friday night and I'm just now getting full internet access back.

No blog for me. My gallery chronicles my card-making successes and mishaps.
First, I would like to say "heartfelt thanks" for extending the deadline for the first challenge. I live very close to the wildfires that were in So Calif last week so I was a bit distracted and missed the deadline. I'm grateful for a lot this week (still having a home) so I guess my card is particularly appropriate .
The most difficult part of this challenge was choosing two cards from other galleries. There are so many talented artists out there! I love Loll Thompson's cards, so her gallery was the first place I looked: Pot of Spring Flowers

I decided to limit my selection of favorites from other stampers to cards from this year, just to make it a little easier on me. My favorites folder is huge!
At our last DT reveal party, we had a trivia game and two stampers tied with the most points. Dockside and mamaxsix both chose a challenge for the spring season.
The person who gets the correct answer to a question first, gets a point.
Trivia Question #1 - Which stamper chose the first spring challenge (Neutrals)?
