Yes, Santa DID bring me a new bike. Two days after we brought it home we were buried under 2 feet of snow! Now it's like 20 degrees out! I'm such a fair-weather rider...I can hardly wait for spring!!!

Now that I have a bigger bike, we're hoping to take some longer road trips this summer. Never know when we might come knocking at your door! Mind if I ask why you quit riding?

No, not at all. Several things contributed but the biggee was when I was diagnosed with RP (eye disease). I had to give up driving all together and it really ticks me off some days! LOL!! Most of the time I am content to have folks "Driving Miss Vicki", but I sure miss the feeling of being on a bike! Come on down this summer and we'll do Dollywood!!

Wow, I'm sure it was hard to give up driving- the independence.
Dollywood- now, that might be a fun trip!! We might take you up on that!

Well, tomorrow 'officially' starts the Glitterbees blog group! Thanks to everyone who joined and to those of you who have already been making your rounds to each other's blogs!!

It seems that the majority likes the idea of the challenge blog, so Tami, if you're still interested in creating one and being 'in charge' of it, we'd appreciate it! It also seems that the majority likes the idea of a bi-weekly challenge...maybe the 1st and the 15th of each month? That gives everyone who wants to participate 2 weeks to get their cards done and posted. Please remember that the challenges are strictly optional! We don't want to put any undue pressure on anyone! It's just a fun way of stamping 'outside the box'. I for one tend to stay away from things I'm not comfortable with, so the challenges make me stretch my creativity.

If we add Mr. Linky to the challenge, opening it up to other stampers, I think that will also help generate more visits to our blogs.

So, Tami are you up to being challenge blog manager??

...oh, thanks Carla! That was one thing we didn't decide on...do we want to take turns coming up with the challenges- maybe have a set 'schedule'? Not sure what the best way to do challenges would be. Please post your comments, ideas, etc. here so we can decide what's best for everyone!

Hey girls this is already so fun! I love seeing everyones blog and all the different styles...it's so inspiring If you could please bare with me as I'm spending the last 2 days with my Airman before he goes home and then deploys. My tears have already started! Say a little prayer for us if you would please!

Oh, Renee, I know how you feel...well, I've never sent off a son, but my dad deployed quite often when I was younger.

Sending well wishes with your airman and praying that he's kept safe.

Default Sack Lunches

I got this in an email and thought of you, Renee...Snopes has it listed as 'undetermined', but I sure hope it's true!

Sack Lunches

I put my carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in my assigned seat.
It was going to be a long flight..'I'm glad I have a good book to read Perhaps
I will get a short nap,' I thought.

Just before take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the
vacant seats, totally surrounding me. I decided to start a conversation. 'Where
are you headed?' I asked the soldier seated nearest to me. 'Petawawa. We'll be
there for two weeks for special training, and then we're being deployed to
Afghanistan.

After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches were
available for five dollars. It would be several hours before we reached the
east, and I quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time...As I reached for
my wallet, I overheard a soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch. 'No,
that seems like a lot of money for just a sack lunch. Probably wouldn't be
worth five bucks.
I'll wait till we get to base. His friend agreed. I looked around at the other
soldiers. None were buying lunch. I walked to the back of the plane and handed
the flight attendant a fifty dollar bill. 'Take a lunch to all those soldiers.'
She grabbed my arms and squeezed tightly.
Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked me. 'My son was a soldier in Iraq, it's
almost like you are doing it for him. 'Picking up ten sacks, she headed up the
aisle to where the soldiers were seated. She stopped at my seat and asked,
'Which do you like best - beef or chicken?'
'Chicken,' I replied, wondering why she asked. She turned and went to the front
of plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from first class. This is
your thanks.

After we finished eating, I went again to the back of the plane, heading for the
rest room. A man stopped me. 'I saw what you did. I want to be part of it.
Here, take this. 'He handed me twenty-five dollars...Soon after I returned to my
seat, I saw the Flight Captain coming down the aisle, looking at the aisle
numbers as he walked, I hoped he was not looking for me, but noticed he was
looking at the numbers only on my side of the plane. When he got to my row he
stopped, smiled, held out his hand, and said, 'I want to shake your hand.
'Quickly unfastening my seat-belt I stood and took the Captain's hand.
With a booming voice he said, 'I was a soldier and I was a military pilot. Once,
someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I never forgot.' I was
embarrassed when applause was heard from all of the passengers.

Later I walked to the front of the plane so I could stretch my legs. A man who
looked 20 was seated about six rows in front of me reached out his hand, wanting
to shake mine. He left another twenty-five dollars in my palm.

When we landed I gathered my belongings and started to depart. Waiting just
inside the airplane door was a man who stopped me, put something in my shirt
pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word. Another twenty-five
dollars! Upon entering the terminal, I saw the soldiers gathering for their
trip to the base. I walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars.
'It will take you some time to reach the base. It will be about time for a
sandwich. God Bless You. 'Ten young men left that flight feeling the love and
respect of their fellow travelers. As I walked briskly to my car, I whispered a
prayer for their safe return. These soldiers were giving their all for our
country. I could only give them a couple of meals. It seemed so little...

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made
payable to 'The United States of America'
for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are
way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. 'May you have
the strength and courage to pass this along to everyone on your email buddy
list....I JUST DID

THANKS TO ALL THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO PUT THEIR LIVES ON THE LINE FOR THIS GREAT
COUNTRY!

HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

1st challenge is up. If you PM me your e-mail addy I will make you an author of the blog so that you can post your own photo on the group blog or if you don't want to do that you can just add your link to Mr Linky.

If you want to host a challenge PM and we will just do it in order of the list on post #1. I've already posted mine so we will skip me. I think it is important to remember that this is all for fun and is not manditory in any way. If there are weeks where no one wants to post a challenge I can do it because I think it is fun. Mary you are next for the 15th. Then Rhetta's turn for Feb 1

Hugs to all

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made
payable to 'The United States of America'
for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are

the strength and courage to pass this along to everyone on your email buddy

Oh ok, so if I was to do something like that on my own blog it wouldn't show up with every post, I would be able to add it where I wanted it?
