I've been watching the news coverage of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and feel so frightened for all the people who are affected. I'm not sure if we have any members in Japan but we do have Hawaii members. They can have a sunami as a result of the devastation in Japan. Hopefully everyone will be ok. I cannot imagine what it's like to live through this type of thing. Just watching the news coverage affects me. Living through it has to be terrifying. Say a little prayer for all of these people.
I lived at Hickam AFB for 3 years Jan '07 to Jan'10 and I lived through 4 Tsunami warnings. I tell you living on a little Island is not fun. The rush to the stores for supplies is unbelivable and the wating for the sirens is the worst. "IF' anything happens, there is no way to save anything but yourself and family.
This is one 28 degree morning I am happy to be in Illinois. But I do miss those Beautiful Beaches and my year round tan.

That has to be terrifying. I live in New York State so the worst we get is hurricanes and snowstorms. Nothing as bad as earthquakes or a tsunami. We have in recent years had tornado warnings which is enough to require a change of panties - lol. I like the stability of knowing my house isn't going to be relocated against my will. As much as this winter sucked, I love New York!!
My daughter and her family live on Oahu, Hickham Air Force base. This is the secede tsunami warning they have gone through. The first one they had to evacuate, now they live in a non-evacuation zone. It is scary.
I live in Alaska and we had the 1964 earthquake which was stringer than the one in Japan, lost of damage but less populated so less deTh and destruction and no tsunami in Anchorage, but tsunamis in the parts of Alaska and even in Oregen which killed people there.
It's an awful, tragic disaster. Continue to pray for Japan.
Michelle that's very scarey. I hope your daughter and her family don't have to stay there very long. Nothing may happen, but just knowing it's possible and they can't be evacuated must always be a concern. I didn't realize that about Alaska or Oregon. I keep hoping things in Japan don't get worse but every morning on the news things appear to be worse.
I live less than 4 miles from the ocean by car at the NC coast. The ocean is so beautiful but deadly. I feel such sorrow for the Japanese people. Now, with the radiation, I am afraid the whole island will have to be evacuated. I think it could probably sink into the ocean. I am not being dramatic; I think this could be possible. It is so hard to even imagine what they are going through. The island is a little smaller than California. They definitely need our prayers and all the help anyone can possibly give. Please pray.
I lived in Misawa for 4 years, which is 20 min from Hachinohe and 150 miles from Sendai. I just moved to AK in July. There are lots of other girls on here who also lived with me over there.
To say we are all heartbroken is an understatement. I live by CNN...and Facebook posts from my friends. Now seeing them all have to decide if they are going to voluntarily evacuate is like a roller coaster that is never ending...and we won't even discuss the nuclear issues, lack of food/gas/kerosene on the economy and the continual aftershocks. I am without words. I just pray the agony ends sooner rather than later. SO MANY immediate needs for the people there...
This is such a catastrophe on so many levels. Japan is such a beautiful country and with the nuclear fallout contaminating the ground who knows what areas will be inhabitable again. I just hope and pray that they get the reactors under control. My niece (my husband's sister's daughter) lived in Japan for a year. She was teaching English. Give her a lot of credit because she couldn't speak a word of Japanese. She said the people were wonderful and the country was beautiful. She loved it there. I've only seen pictures and seen parts of Japan thanks to the Amazing Race. They were there not too long ago. I know the USA and other countries are going to help but there will be people without the basic necessities of life for quite a while. I don't think we can really know what this feels like for them because we're not living it. We can only imagine and that's bad enough. Imagine actually living through this? All we can do is pray for them and if we can, donate money to help. I'm glad you are not still in Japan and I'm sure you are too.
We do have at least one member there, she is hosting a current swap. She had told us this past weekend that they were fine but yesterday the swap was put on hold because they are being evacuated. She can only take the bare minimum and is worried about the swap. We say stay safe ane get back to us. I know prayers are needed. Maybe the people predicting the end times for May 20, aren't wrong after all!
How sweet is she to be worried about a swap with all she's going through! They elevated the nuclear disaster #'s from a 4 to a 5 and said Chernobel was a 7. Oh boy, I hope they're not right about May 20th! I'm not quite ready to check out of this life yet.
