I will go further and say, thinking about it I am concerned that these are returned merchandise and returned for a reason. I hope I am wrong. However, I will take a leaf out of Barbara Jay's book if it is the case. At the moment, I can do nothing except expect my product and the price to be honored.
The machines from HSN are NOT returned merchandise. Everything is new! The boxes are right from the factory in China. Infact the cardboard shipping box says "China" on the outside

In retrospect I feel I handled this poorly! And I am sorry
I was frustrated and disappointment and turned to the board to share this AND for a solution to handle my problem. I can count on one hand the times I have had to call a company about a product.
By sharing my frustration on how to handle this I feel I planted the idea others may have the same problem. I never meant to cause anyone concern. I am sure there are thousands of Grand Calibers out there that are perfect .
I have learned a valuable lesson in all of this. I will never again share a problem or ask advise on how to handle it. I caused this to be more than it should have been.
Spellbinders was fantastic and everything has worked out.

Please don't apologize and Thank you for clarifying that it comes in a factory direct box. That helps my fears. And just to be clear if I hadn't seen your post in General Stamping I wouldn't have found this post and I wouldn't have a Grand Calibur and dies on their way for the lowest price I could have wished for at this time. It is my choice to buy with all the information. I like information when I try to make good decisions. Honestly I have wanted a GC since they came out because I make large cards and my bug restricted what I could do with my cards, so this is a great deal and I know that I will get great service one way or another (HSN or Spellbinders). So thank you.
PS - it was my "math" that made me wonder about returned merchandise. Adding up the flawed machine and someone else missing dies... I could just see someone in returns not really caring if everything in the offer was returned or just giving it a cursory once over. Glad to be proven wrong.
HSN was also great. I just got notification they did NOT charge me for the return shipping because it had a defect. They have a return shipping charge of $8.95 if you just changed your mind and that is fair.
I think HSN made a special purchase of the GC. It comes in a cardboard box without the red/blue and white retail box so they could fit the extra dies in there. The cardboard box has the same paper mach formed packing inserts. The dies are in cellophane not the retail packaging to conserve space .
I also received my GC from Spellbinders today and the white lever to engage the suction mechanism turns and works just it should .
I also make large cards 5" x 7".
The Grand Caliber's wide format opens up a whole new range of possibilities

When I called HSN about the return shipping charge the woman told me "every" return for any reason, is checked out to be sure everything is right.
The missing die was probably just an employee who forgot to put it in the box. In our lives I am sure everyone had gotten home to find a clerk forgot to put something in the bag we paid for.
As long as it is made right we can't ask for more.

I ordered the GC from HSN and received it today. I'm happy to report that I received all the dies and the white lever did engage. I have always wanted the GC and to have got this great deal was awesome.
oooo just checked - mine is out for delivery today. We are normally last on the man in brown's route though...and I am out tonight and tomorrow. LOL! but at least I can play Sunday.

Exactly. Just had to go back to my supermarket yesterday with meat that was over charged, bacon (another company's) that had mold in the middle and an issue with my last receipt where I had given them two loyalty checks for $30 and was only creditted $0.30. Took a few minutes but I left with my credit, my bacon refunded (which tasted foul before we got to that bit took back over half) and my meat refunded and given back to me. I understand mistakes and love good customer services. It made it so much easier to even go back with my issues because I knew they would deal with them well. She even laughed with her colleague, because there were so many issues, what to put on the refund receipt and I laughed when the colleague replied "oops!"

Thank you Barbara for the posting! I too now have a Grand Caliber on the way to me. I never thought I would own one as they were so pricey. I think that because it was to good to be true pricing it was nature to wonder what could be wrong. No way did you plant the seed of doubt! Proceed with caution but not negativity. These kind of things have taught me so much about products that I probably have saved alot of money
So thank you. I am waiting anxiously for my new toy. :-)
Got mine late Friday - Was out Friday/Saturday - got it out of the box last night but was too darn tired to even bother with it (had been judging a tournament for 12 hours let alone the travel time). So played today! At first I was worried I couldn't get the handle on properly. I'm thinking I might just leave the white guide off (got my DH to persuade it) as the reason for the upgrade was for the 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock acceptance. I'm a happy customer.
My only complaint I already knew about - I wish it had been engineered with gears for more pressure or kept the ratchet - I find the 1:1 ratio (guessing) monotonous that is my issue not the product's I knew it about it before I bought it.
I read some people are using a smaller similar mat that was for the Wizard. I think it is W-25, but I am not sure. I don't have it Spellbinder's Sizzix Original Cut Mat
