So I got "the talk" this weekend from DH about how much I'm spending on stamping stuff. I have been having so much fun that I know I've gone overboard... I keep thinking that after I buy XYZ I'll have everything I need, but somehow I still find more things whenever I go to the LSS or the craft stores. I am afflicted with the perfectionist's need to have just the perfect dp/ink/ribbon/brad/whatever to go with each card.
I am pledging to not buy anything new - except if someone commissions me to make something specific - because now I really do think I have enough of a collection of everything that I should be able to make most cards without going shopping. I know the first critical step is just to STAY OUT of the stores. I don't know how long I'll be able to hold out but thought there might be safety in numbers, LOL. Anyone care to join me?
I *should* join - I too, have been spending WAY too much - and just placed a quarterly-fullfillment order at SU yesterday! Yikes - but what fun!
I really need to join..... but can I do it next week?
Kinda like - "I'll kick tomorrow?"
My dd and I are headed on a girls-only trip - -on the itinerary is Joann,Etc; Michaels; AC Moore; Pat Catans; Hobby Lobby; several stamp/scrap stores; and an art/craft festival!!
We'll be back next week - I'll start it next week

Sorry, I can't join you on this one. I just wanted to wish you luck. One of the best parts of this hobby for me is purchasing new, fun stuff. I usually just sell off some of my retired or older product to purchase new. I think not buying anything would zap all the fun out of it for me.
Ireland - wow, that sounds like a fun trip! I think anyone can join whenever. I was thinking of a weekly check-in to see how we're doing, if there are enough people that want to do it. Or if we need more frequent encouragement it could be more often, LOL.

A pledge!!!! ME???? BBWWWAHHHAHAHAHA! I'm not called Bad Bev for nothing!!!. (The truth of the matter is, I'm spending my money, not DH's, so he really can't say anything. Also, for a guy, he likes to shop, so he does understand the instant gratification of the shopping experience.)

That's great Robyn! I know that not everyone would want to do this. Heck, *I* don't want to do it but feel that I need to try. My goal is to first use everything I have, since I have some stamps I've never even broken out yet, and tons of cardstock and dp. I'm not ready to part with anything yet but I may adopt that strategy someday!
And my DH told me that he wants to get me stamping stuff for gifts, since he sees how happy it's made me - so now he gets my loooooong wish list from the new catty. So I am still hoping I will find ways to get some new stuff.
I should join in too. My DH lets me buy everything I want and even some I don't! He spoils me, but I've been stretching my own personal limits lately. I don't like to spend more than I can afford to, so I think I have enough stuff for now and a long time after!

Count me in!! I'm cleaning up my craft pit (which hopefully will soon be worthy of being called a stamping space!), and am being reminded of just how much stuff I already have. No buying for me until the current stash has been purged and organized. I am going to be participating in a sale on Sept 8, so may allow myself to use some of the proceeds from that ;)
I tried this last month - declared "no-buy july" and swore that I wasn't spending on anything craft-related for a month.
Then my birthday rolled around (on the 24th) and I made the mistake of meandering into the buy-sell-trade forums and, well, you can imagine
It was strangely liberating, though. I had 50% off coupons from JoAnn's that I didn't use and a whole mess of 40% off at Michael's; but I can't say that I spent a month PINING to go shopping. And because I went for 3 weeks without spending anything, I had extra $$ when I did break down!

Hmmm okay i'll go on this. I will admit that i have a ton of stuff that I really really need to use UP (mostly paper).
Although my commitment to no buying has to hav an * by it b/c i am a member of a stampin up club. Then minimum order is $15 w/a 5 dollar class fee. So as long as you guys are okay with that then i'm all in.
I wish you all the luck in the world but I can't join in on this one. I didn't buy anything for 3 weeks in July and it almost killed me! LOL It's also my birthday Thursday and my fiance is financing a shopping trip ~ whatever I want is mine!
I really feel for ya... I've never gotten "the talk" since all the money I spend is mine, but I sure would hate it if he decided I was spending too much. Although I probably am.
You know it's funny...I've been on sort of an informal buying moratorium these last few weeks. I haven't pre-ordered from the new mini. I haven't made an order from the new catalog since my very first one. I just sort of willed myself to (a) pick up my craft room, and (b) actually STAMP. It's quite refreshing, really!
The only thing I've been waiting on a M's coupon for now is to get more container type things to aid in the cleaning up process...nothing fun-like. How very unlike me, LOL!!
First would be to stay off this site. I don't usually want the stamps until I see the terrific cards you gals make. Then they go on my wish list. I usually buy from Su every other month. My last stop in our LSS was a 5 dollar purchase. But...I have enough supplies and unused stamps for the rest of my life. Good luck to all.
Well, Lori, I'll join you in this! I've actually been doing it for the last month anyway. I've got soooo much stuff and haven't had ANY time to stamp, so I've been trying to keep myself in control. I actually drive by Michael's and Hobby Lobby everyday (they are w/i a block of each other), and I can feel myself starting to twitch when I start to get close to them.;) I was invited to an SU! make and take w/ some of the new catty stuff, and decided to stay far, far away. I haven't ordered anything from SU! since January! (I know, CRAZY!, but it was a really big order:rolleyes: .)
Good luck, and if you need someone to "talk you down", let me know.
I'll commit to no more paper and no adhesive. What is so appealing about adhesive, I'll never know!
I have a lot of adhesive too - but mostly because I wanted to try some different ones and still usually find myself using the same two. That is my only worry with my pledge... that I will run out of my faves and get suckered into buying too much when I have to hit the store to get it!
I wish you luck, but I won't join you!
I denied myself for all the years that my husband and I were raising our three children. Their needs, of course, had to come first. They've been grown and on their own for some time now, and now it's time for ME!
My husband and I now buy whatever we want, whenever we want it! However, we still don't over-spend. We have no carry over debt from month to month. I hate owing money!
So take heart, all you young mothers....your time will come, too, when you can indulge yourself completely!

I feel the same way! I am trying to cut back though on household expenses by cooking every night this weekend instead of takeout ;). I can't scrimp on the crafting supplies LOL!!!!

I would like to wish you luck with this! My friends and I have done this for a month at a time. Right now is not one of those months.
Or we've done challenges like a thirty set challenge. You have to use thirty different stamp sets on thirty different cards before you can buy another piece of rubber. Then we keep track in our siggy lines 5/30 or whatever.
I'll think about it . . . might join in with the exception of paper and adhesive. If you don't have adhesive, not much you can do.

This is a myth.

You can do it!! Ok, having no stamping $$ helps. LOL I just throw my ads & coupons away, don't even look at the Hobby Lobby ad I get emailed every week...I have PLENTY of paper, and once I get my classes up and going I'll get the hostess bennies! Can you believe I have not ordered from the new catty (besides my preorder of course...)???? Me either...I must be sick.
