Scrappin' Challenge 2017
Can you believe this is our 9th year of Scrappin' Goal Challenge?! We sure completed an AWESOME number of pages together in 2009 through 2016 and I'm looking forward to MORE Scrap pages together in 2017! Let's keep scrappin'.
It was SO fun to chat about and see everyone's pages, goals and ideas for completing LOTS of scrapbook pages in 2017! Many had a common theme - get more pages done, use what's in our stash, meet new scrapping friends, plan time/crops...
What fun we'll have sharing ideas, cheering success, keeping the motivation and making new friends. Our scrap goal isn't all about getting pages done, it's also about enjoying the process! Please feel free to join at any time!
Here's the CHALLENGE. Each person can share their page goals, pages and ideas. for those of use who like Annual Goals, we will have a better shot at meeting our yearly goal if we break it down by month.
*In this thread, we track our monthly goals. We find it helps us keep getting pages done which is good for all of us.
You choose your own scrapbook page goal and monthly spend goal. You may select 2, 3, 5, 50 pages....you choose. The idea is to be flexible so if you know you're going to be really busy, you can reduce the number one month or if you're going to a couple crops or scrap weekends, up the number. This also works for the budget. Each month, you can change your goals depending on your calendar!
The whole goal of the challenge is to get lots of pages done all the while enjoying sharing with Virtual Friends.
Are you UP for the CHALLENGE? Come and Play in the 2017 Scrapbook Challenge! Here's to Meeting our Scrapping Goals & Meeting New Friends!
We'd love to "oohh" and "aahh" over your pages so please post with key word "sbc17jun"

I'm at 142 pages right now, which is equal to my total for all of last year. And I finished my honeymoon album! (Just 12 years after the actual cruise, haha.) No specific goal for June, just whatever I can get done.
Hi gals. I only did one page last month, and June's calendar is already filling up with stuff for my kids, but I am really going to try to scrapbook this month. I will work on a sketch to post later today. Please put me down for 10 pages.
Just checking in...and I have a tale for you, because you all will GET it.
Obviously my scrapping completely fell off the rails with everything last year, haha. And obviously we all know we will never be DONE with pages we need to do because we just keep living and just keep taking pictures.
So, recently, my big kids have spent a lot of time looking at their scrapbooks, and they're exasperated that I'm so far behind! HA. Like really annoyed that they have two Halloweens back to back in their albums, lol... We have one day each week this summer when I will be working, and I need them NOT on screens the entire day. My brilliant husband suggested THEY work on their scrapbooks that day! I have a shoebox of printed pictures for each of them, and they are "allowed" to use anything in my retired stash (since I am still an active Stampin' Up! demostrator). But they kind of have to ask because we all know we buy the pretty paper and accessories so that WE can use it, haha...
This past Wednesday they each completed two events. My daughter has 12x12 albums and my son has 8x11 during these years. They picked their photos from their stashes, then I quickly taught them "the basics"- choosing a color scheme, choosing a title stamp, arranging photos, trimming off excess but not too much, and picking coordinating embellishments.
The funniest thing was that one child chose to go "in order" of the photos in her box, and the other picked two events completely randomly, closing his eyes! haha! Then, she didn't want stamps, and he absolutely needed them. She wanted lots of embellishments to choose from, and he "didn't want any of them cluttering up his pages", hahaha!
All I care is that four new events were completed and they had a great time with this project!

I agree with Joyce, what an AWESOME opportunity to have the kids scrap some of their fave events ...Or in your Son's case "random" events, haha!
Scrap on

Fortunately I started tonight trying to get this post done ... it took me over 3 hours, ugh! The forum posting process wasn't very cooperative tonight ... but ... June VSBN is here!
I hope it's a fun way to start your Summer Scrappin' :o

May only completed 4/15. Yikes! I missed my goal by a mile for May, but figured any is better than I did a year ago! I forgot to actually consider my May calendar before I made it and so I am going to lower it for June. Summer is a busy time for us and I have one college son who moved home for the summer for the first time since he left after high school. So I will take advantage of this and spend as much time with him as possible.
Goal for June is 8.
YTD 105
Hello everyone....we are back and I'm ready to scrap again
Not sure how I add myself each month to the monthly challenge list and ytd and monthly goal figures, but here's my updates.....
YTD: 33
I managed to go over my goal in May and completed 10/8.
My goal for June is 8 although we have another busy month with a couple of birthdays at the end of the month (1 being mine...lol) but I will do my best.
Happy scrapping ladies. Can't wait to see what the hosts have in store for us this month.

Jayne, I trust you enjoyed a lovely trip. As for having yourself added to the monthly, you just have to make a post in the thread, and you did.
Looking forward to seeing all of us getting scrappy this month.

Hi Joyce Ann, we had a lovely trip thank you. We did nothing but eat, drink, read, sleep, eat, drink, read, sleep, with some swimming thrown in....LOL. It was very relaxing and now we are back to the cold....well cold to us...;). We've been to Thailand a few times before so I didn't take a lot of photos but you will all get to see them when I eventually scrap our Thailand travels.
I'm now preparing for a craft day next week and have cut my photos as close to the sketch as I can and about to choose papers and embellishments for 4 pages...I find this the hardest part.
Thanks also for the note regarding the thread for June goals and I see I've been added to the list. Thank you and also to Lela.
Happy days ladies. Looking forward to seeing your June LOs. Jx

Oh, Tanya, thank you for sharing! Amazing! I hope they do many more! I love that they are different kind of scrappers, just like us!
Hi Tanya, agree with Sharon. I love your story and their LOs are awesome. It's given me an idea when I craft with my grandchildren...although they still are a little young, but something for the future. TFS. Happy day

Tanya's tale of how differently the two kids approach scrapping made me giggle and also wonder...who here scraps chronologically? And who jumps around?
Me, I jump around all over the place. I usually have photos for maybe a dozen events or so pulled out, and I just pick whichever one seems inspiring when I'm ready to start new pages. Which is why I have unscrapped photos going back to 2003...but somehow 2008 is all done? ;)
Yep! I used to scrap chronological before being introduced to SCS challenges. Now, like you, Christy, I am all over the place. Even, have some random heritage pages done.
I am so behind on my scrapping. I look at what photos I have, hundreds from over the years, and I am just overwhelmed! I have all sketches printed off, Cheryl's and Lela's VSBN ones. Just don't know where to begin! Really stumped right now!

As you've seen from my LOs, I jump around. I used to also scrap chronologically when doing each of our boy's albums, but some photos sometimes just cry out to be scrapped and others aren't that great but need to be in there. Since I've joined this site, I now have to look at which photos will sometimes fit the challenge. One thing for sure is that this group has given me the push I needed. Happy weekend everyone

Hi Sharon, I can relate to this. I've never followed sketches until the past few months and printed off this months and found my photos weren't the right size or I had too many. The sketches are great though and I think I overthink things instead of thinking how I can make the sketch work for my LO.
I've decided to just run with it and cut my photos as best I can and maybe use a tag in place of a photo as long as the finished LO is as close to the sketch as possible.
My problem now is choosing papers and colours. I find it so hard. When I went to a scrapbooking class many many years ago, we were told to find a common colour in the photos or one colour that stood out and use that as our base paper colour. Is this what you all do or am I on the wrong track? I've watched a lot of videos recently and noticed the Scrappers only use 2 colours and if they use a patterned paper they stick to 2 colours from that. I'm now confused, which isn't hard...LOL
I hope to get organised today ready for my craft day on Monday.
Happy scrapping and weekend

Scrapbooking today, Jayne, is not so cut and dry - use whatever colors make it YOUR style. It isn't a law to use only colors from your photos. Just let your colors make your photos look good and provide a fun and happy environment for your memories.
You are on the right track with making the sketch work for you, too.
I think that because of challenges and sketches I get more pages done, rather than being overwhelmed. Another thought: Tell your story with the pictures you have, don't be a slave to the photos. So what if you have 12 from that event. If you can only use 5 or 7 to keep the memory of the event, that is allowed. There is talk of how you can store those extras or toss them (especially if they were so very much alike in content as the others). Professional photographers will take way more than necessary and use what it takes to "tell the story", why can't we feel comfortable with that? I have my extras from many years ago in a box that I know I most likely will never scrap because I have done layouts already. I won't throw them out, though.
We inspire each other here and that is a very good thing!

Before I got into SU!, I used to spend SO much time trying to find exactly the perfect shade to match my photos...now I just look for one that looks good even if it's not totally matchy-matchy. And I don't necessarily worry about using the same colors as are in my photos, but rather look for colors that will coordinate with them...for example, on the Heian Shrine layout I did, the main color in the photos is a deep orange. I did use a tiny bit of Tangerine Tango for the photo mats, but I chose Rich Razzleberry for the page base and Mint Macaron for my DSP color and those are the two main colors of paper that you see. If I'd used Tangerine Tango for the page base, the entire layout woulda been orange ;)
To help me choose colors, and since I use 99% SU! papers, I have a binder full of cardstock swatches. I pull out colors and lay them next to my photos (preferably when I have some natural light) until I get a combination I like. If you look at my blog, I take pictures of the swatches when I finish the layout too, just because it's fun to me. So that's what works for my brain
You're welcome Scrappy Sisters! I thought it would be fun to try a little change on our VSBN ... I hope you like the sketches and I can't wait to see your favorites as well

This would be the same for me. I used to scrap chronological. Once I started playing along with the challenges it was more difficult. I think the final switch to "random" for me came when I moved to Top Loading Albums. I usually get more pages done (until this year) doing random because I use the photos that inspire me
As for selecting colors, I'm also not good at it ... it's why for me I scrap 99% CTMH so the colors are already matched, LOL! It saves me. ;)
