Default Hello, fairly new to stamping!

I have had a little bit of stamping bits and bobs for a while but only used occasionally. I'd like to get back into it but struggled and hit a block when it came to colouring.

I have promarkers which I love but find that they smear with the black outline of my stamped images :( I have been using a pigment ink stamp pad, and letting it dry for some time, so I thought it would be OK but apparently not!

How do you know what ink pads go well with certain pens? For example I might want to use water based pens too, which this stamp pad ink also smudges with.

Thanks for any help and I look forward to looking around the forums!

Hello and welcome! There is a sub forum called General Stamping Talk - Splitcoaststampers that will get you more answers to your questions about coloring. I'm somewhat new also, hope that the link works but if it doesn't just navigate to the General Stamping Talk and post your question there.

I would say you need to use an ink such as Memento, that's what I use when I color, it's water resistant. :-D

Thanks I'll go and post over there too!

What type of ink is the memento? I wonder if pigment ink is just the wrong type!

Hi there! I'm not sure if you found your answer elsewhere, but it took me a long while to figure out what I needed years back, so I'm passing this along.
  • If your markers are alcohol or solvent based, use Tsukineko Memento inks. You may also heat emboss (with a pigment ink) and then use your markers.

  • If you have water based markers or are using watercolors, use an alcohol ink pad (such as Staz On by Tsukineko), an oil based ink (my favorite is Versafine by Tsukineko), or again do some heat embossing.

*I swear I'm not an advocate for Tsukineko, I just really find their line of inks to be super useful. They have a solution for every situation!

Welcome and Memento ink is a Dye based ink and the previous posts are correct in that they worked wonderfully with alcohol based markers. I have a full size pad of Memento Tuxedo black and Desert Sand and the rest are the little drops. Hope this helps
