I bought a 12x12 file cabinet from Oriental Trader, the Store In Style white cubes... Well, I love the size, but right away the front came off and I just screwed it on with smaller screws...it only have crappy nails in it. And the file folders that came with it, weren't wide enough to be used. I already had some of those plastic folders from Cropper Hopper and they work in there.
Just a FYI. Probably not worth the money with the defaults, but I am happy with it now.
check Craig's List! I was able to get 12x12 paper racks very cheap! I bought one rack for $15 and the other two I got for $30 ea b/c they were bigger. It was totally worth it! I keep scraps in a rolling cart with file folders by color/hue.
I saw a five drawer plastic bin on wheels at our local Alco store, not sure if i can find it on line too or not i'll peek around, it has three shallow drawers on top and two deep ones on the bottom, it think it's about $30 and i'm fighting off getting it right now until i have more stuff i need to put it in in hopes it will go on sale lol. I'm so cheap I squeak!
thanks ladies
i have my hear set on a metal/wood file cabinet.i want to thumb through my paper. like i do my cardstock.
i didn't think it would be this hard to find. am i the only 1 that wants this?
as i tell my dh " they must make this". "you can't tell me that --if bill gates wants it for his house. someone wouldn't find it" !
same thing we went through. when i wanted 1 single outlet(not the standard double) for under my windows. he said "they don't make those"-yes they do. you just need to search.
i have a single under each of my windows.
.... the search will continue
I bought a couple of the white 12 X 12 cubes that have hanging files from my LSS. They look like the ones that Oriental Trading sells but they must be a better quality because mine are STURDY!! They also cost $70 a piece!! I think they are made by the same company that makes all the white craft storage stuff Michaels sell. I think it's Creative Memories?

i imagine the price will be quite steep when you find it. It is a small niche looking for these, there isn't that much of a demand.
I wouldn't even pay the prices they have for atractive 8 1/2 x 11 hanging folder cabinets. I ended up with ikea's we shall see how long they hold up.
I know I have read in another thread with this one you can take the bottom drawer out and 12x12 will hang in the space. The drawer can then be used elsewhere in your space.
Just an idea, they make 12 x 12 hanging files. I believe years ago when I worked in an office we took a standard file cabinet and turned the files the opposite direction so instead of the files running front ot back they ran side to side. I would double check at Office Max or Staples as they can confirm this. Otherwise you may have to use a credenza like Bill Gates uses. :-)

brillant idea.
but the paper is 12 square. and the drawers aren't 12" high
might check out the 1 @ IKEA. we drive by 1 on the way to the "outlaws,in jersey. i know IKEA has very s/h.

If its the one I linked then there is another thread on 12x12 storage and a lady has excellent pictures of them in use in her craft room. HTH.
here is the long galant from Ikea. I never thought about this, you could put 12x12 paper in it. the paper would just stand over the hanging file folder 31/2 inches. It still has clearance for the drawers to close !! brilliant, except I filled both mine with my 81/2 x 11 cardstock and have no room for more :(
of course i didn't think to put 12 x12 in the file when I took that picture, so I am loading another with the 12 x12 in a folder (these are just standard pendalflex hanging folders. You couldn't use the 12 x 12 hanging folders because they wouldn't make clearance on the bottom You can't adjust the height of the metal bars.
I too struggled with storage of my 12 x 12 paper and not paying an arm and a leg for it. I have 5 six drawer rolling carts with 6 totally enclosed 12 x 12 plastic clear individual boxes in them. I also have a huge Creative Memories Chest that I store my "paper" not my cardstock or specialty paper in. Creative Memories Chest by dduntley at Splitcoaststampers. I created my own dividers out of cardboard boxes and stapled the divider tabs (http://www.staples.com/Smead-Viewabl...?cmArea=SEARCH) to them. I can see the category from both sides and the top. They rock!
I want my paper in holders that I can keep the dust and cat hair out of. I want the boxes to be clear so I can see what I have at a glance.
Not saying my way is the best way for everyone. But it works great for me. Now the $$$ part! I got all of these items from Craigslist! I actually got the CM chest for free from someone getting out of the business. The rolling carts I also purchased on Craigslist from people getting rid of their collections. I think the most I paid was $20 and it was full of stuff. Search for the deals! They are out there.
Iris has hanging folders for 12x12 paper and they have a portable file container. I have 2 one for solid colors and one for designer papers. the top has a 6x12 container on top that fits long rub ons and chip board sheets perfectly. excellent for taking to crops.
this week I was at Sam's club and they have a rolling cart with 10- drawers that are 12x12 in size this would hold papers flat. Each drawer could hold sereral paper families. best part it only cost $29.99 it has metal frame and grey drawers. looks nice.

Thank you for that picture!
Will it hold legal width files? I'm thinking about filing like the first picture in the link, once I find what I want to buy I like the visual of being able to see the choices fanned out - http://www.scrapncube.com/Department...w-to-file.aspx
now i have many choices. thanks ladies. i will print all i love out.
compare & decide.
i'm leaning towards my dh building the 1 i pick.
sadly it might take awhile.
we have company arriving this evening
and again next weekend
i should be off cooking my soup
and baking my applesauce cake.
but again here i sit.............

Dawn (Scrappin' Queen)
dawn i have no luck w/ searching craigslist.
could you give me some hints. please
like "....." in search
thanks so much
I search for exactly what I am looking for. If it is Copic markers then I type Copic into the search bar. For rolling carts there are a few more options. Rolling cart, paper cart, Iris cart etc. I also use generic terms like scrapbooking, scrapbook, and crafts. Often times the items I am looking for is part of a “lot” that someone is trying to unload. I always ask if they will sell it off in pieces. I NEVER pay full price (unless it is a steal already). I check Joann’s for example to see what the retail price is. I also check EBay to see what the “used” price is going for (including shipping) before I send an offer to them.
this picture shows the measurements of the holes where you can put the hanging rods. goinfg from right to left the holes are 12, 13, 15 (a bit more) I son't know how wide the legal files are it the metal part of the folder would reach these.
I like that site you referenced. I have way too much dp to file like that. If you know how wide the folder hangs let me know please.
thanks everyone.
after printing all ideas.
and comparing how much $ & time it would take allen to build.
i ordered from oriental trading company.
item # 65/85169 store in style filer cube set. got 2 in total.
i need 2 just to get all 12x12 in 1 place.
then i will sort. and donate much i'm sure. as i don't scrapbook. and never will.
alot is from joanns/michaels
after much sorting i'm hoping to only need to keep 1.
might resell the other. my niece might want/need it. as she scrapbooks.
again thanks.
thanks ladies

Ive gone through MANY stores for the same kind of thing from what I can gather and in Australia they dont seem to think scrappers need anything! lol.
The solution I found is to get my lovely Dad and Grandfather (they had to use both of them to figure out what I was meaning as they do NOT understand scrap speak! The kept saying to just buy the ones I saw lol gotta love them) to make me a set of these from Ikea.
The only difference was that I got them to change the internal draw space to 12.5 x 12.5 (to allow a little space on the edges of the sheets) and the bottom draw was made slightly taller to accommodate the rungs for vertical filing. This will mean I will be able to file it and thumb through the card stock colours MUCH easier.
I will post a picture when it is all finished (they are having problems finding decent runners atm). I know this may not help HEAPS but its an option.
I bought a 3 drawer legal size metal filing cabinet from the office supply store. The top two drawers will hold hanging legal files with enough 'drop' space and 'head' space to house 12x12 paper. I love it! Here is an (unfortunately very crummy) photo so you see what I mean.

Michael's jetmax storage has a 12x12 hangling folder unit. I have one and it fits my 12x12 paper just fine. One thing to note is that it doesn't have a bottom so you have to use hanging files. It only comes with 4 hanging file folders; I bought more online.
