This is a wonderful easy way to make it look like an artist colored your image.
Watercolor Pencils
Aqua Painter, wet watercolor brush, or blender pen.
Waterproof Ink
Cardstock
A detailed stamp set
Step 1.
Stamp image with waterproof ink onto cardstock.
Step 2.
Visualize a light source. I chose one coming from the top right. This means that some of my darker tones will be at the bottom left.
Apply Watercolor Pencils to darker toned areas, opposite the light source, where color would naturally be darker.
Step 3.
Using an Aqua Painter, begin in the dark colored areas. Slowly pull the watercolor pencil colors inward toward the lighter areas.
Step 4.
Using a watercolor pencil (I used gray), add lines for shadows to the outside of the stamped image, opposite your light source.
Step 5.
Using the Aqua Painter, going in one direction, pull the gray color away from the light source. Do not use a back and forth (or seesaw) motion, but rather pick up your brush and go back, pulling outward. For shadows I usually use gray. However, blue and purple colors can look natural too.
Step 6.
Finish your card!
