Vicki is our hostess in the Color Challenge this week, and she has asked us to use Calypso Coral, Crisp Cantaloupe and So Saffron. The dessert option is "dimension."
This card is a true comedy of errors, but I didn't throw anything away and didn't give up! Things started off well, when I found a piece of DS paper that contained the Calypso Coral and Crisp Cantaloupe colors. Wanting dessert, as always, I decided to use that paper as part of a shaker tag to go on top of my card for dimension. That part went fine.
Then I decided to use my Next Level quilted embossing folder. I still haven't quite figured out the best "sandwich" for them, and as a result, my So Saffron layer was far from deeply embossed. But it was OK. Striving for even more dimension, I covered most of this layer with foam tape. As I was peeling off the backing, OH, NO! I put the tape on the "good side!" I was determined NOT to throw away that layer, so I said, "Fine, I'll use the debossed side."
I took an 11" x 4-1/4" piece of Calypso Coral cardstock and scored it--but not at 5-1/2" as I should have. I hit the 5-3/8" mark on my Scor-Pal, folded and burnished, and then realized my mistake. Scored and folded again; don't look at the back! ;-)
I stuck the So Saffron layer onto the card base and glued on the tag. I die cut the "friend" three times with So Saffron cardstock, stacked them up, and sponged the top layer with So Saffron ink. It wasn't until I saw the photo of the finished card that I realized the word did not show up well, so I cut yet another layer from Calypso Coral cardstock, and glued that on top of the three Saffron layers.
That poor debossed Saffron layer just looked weird, and I was not going to throw this card away, so I applied some Stickles to each concave circle. Added a butterfly at the top, covered it and "friend" with Wink of Stella, and added a couple of white dots to the butterfly with Enamel Accents (I love that stuff!). Whew! Snatched from the jaws of defeat, and a fairly pretty result with lots of dimension, too!
Thanks for stopping by, and please play along with us this week!
