I was working on this when the Free for All challenge of honouring our fathers was posted. What a lovely coincidence! I followed a great tutorial by Irene Rhodes posted in the Fan Club threads. A great reason to be a member!
Both my father and father-in-law are no longer with me so this is for my husband. Before we were married we made furniture as a hobby (more properly HE made furniture and I played a support role, i.e. mostly sanding and finishing). One of the first things he built was a proper workbench which is still with us and fully stocked with every tool known to mankind. He is an extremely handy guy and I am very appreciative of all he does. BTW the card bench is MUCH tidier than the real one. :-)

Ann, I was thrilled to see this workbench on the gallery front page this morning otherwise I might have missed it. It sure made me smile. You've done an awesome job and I'm sure your husband will be very surprised he is getting a new and clean workbench for Father's Day.. wink wink.... The bench is also good for the gardener in your life.

Fabulous! Your hubby will love it. Yes, I believe the card workbench is cleaner than the real one, because I've seen my hubby's workbench. Regardless, this card is amazing. All the special touches are great. I like the tiny tools, the pegboard behind the tools and the knobs on the drawers. Great card!! TFS

Oh my gosh, this is the cutest, neatest, most wonderful guy card, EVER! My DH is a woodcrafter, too - he's built a room full of custom stamp cabinets for me, in addition to other built-in's in our home. I am always on the hunt for cool ideas for cards for him, and yours is now at the top of the list. Thanks so much for mentioning where you found the tutorial for this, I will look for it (fan club member already!).
I love how you placed the tools on all the surfaces of the bench, just like real life (except for the sawdust and pieces of boards!). You totally knocked out of the ballpark with the sentiment panel that looks like a doormat. It adds a warm, personal finishing touch to a totally awesome pop-up card. Nicely done!!!! TFS
