This is for the spirelli/string art category (PAT 16/Group 15).
While not spirelli in the true sense, this is based on similar principles. The shape is from a family of curves called epicycloids. This particular one is a cardioid (due to the heart-like shape), though I find it reminds me more of a crescent moon.
The background is made with twinkling H20s and sponging, the figures are stamped on the same blue as the background and colored with pencils. The "moon" is a 52-point cardioid made with...wait for it... dental floss! It was the only fiber in my stash with just the right smooth, pearly sheen.
