I combined several ideas from SCS and came up with these ornaments for my family. I printed the re-sized photos on transparency film, cut, insert, added a bow!
Hint: the film is much stiffer than window sheets, so when rolling the cutout - a few times the photo "cracked". I ended up using a paintbrush handle to roll - and it worked better. And the round flat ornaments work best I think. But I tried them all!

Hi Patti,
So sorry it's taken me so long to reply back, I'm still recovering from post holiday stuff.
Anyway, some of the ladies at our church have been getting together for a craft night once a month and tonight I am going to show some of them how to do the ornaments. My niece is especially interested in the ones with photos like yours. I want to make some to give to bros. sisters, nieces & nephews of our Mom & Dad when they were younger and some of our family when we were kids. I know a photo ornament is something I would love to receive as a gift and I think everyone else will like them too.
I'm thinking of using some vintage charms and ribbon to attach to the top. Maybe even try toning down the gold or silver tops with stain to give a vintage look to the ornament.
I just received a new Epson Photo RX620 along with a new digital camera for Christmas and I can't wait to give them both a try. I will post a pic. of some of the ornaments when I'm done.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Debbie
P.S. I also love the ornaments with stamped images. I plan on making a lot of those with the snow effect. My sister in law told me that she had trouble with the snow clumping in certain spots and not looking so hot so she uses beads in the bottom. I've seen different ones on here with snow in the bottom and they look fine. Any idea on what she's doing wrong or if there is a trick to it?

UPDATE news flash!
I originally purchased the glass ornaments at Mike's. But my store ran out before Christmas. Imagine my surprise when I found stacks and stacks at a different store -- for $1 a pack! I'm all set for next year...

just saw your reply. I didn't have any trouble with the "snow" I used clumping (a little static maybe so it stuck to the acetate on a few. Did she rinse them out? If so, maybe not dry enough. I did try (and try!) to do the glitter balls, and never had any success with them at all! So - gave up and stuck with the stamped images and photos on acetate.
The trick I found with the photos is sizing your photo to print, so that you have a large enough, but not too large image to work with. I knew my ornament was about 2 1/4 round. When I was ready to print my photos, I imported the image into powerpoint, sized to about 2 1/2 (depends on the image too - how much background you have in the photo that you don't want/need). I was able to get 6-8 different photos on one ppt page so I saved some on the sheets. I did use transparencies for my printer, and the package was expensive. BUT - everyone loved them sooooo much that it was worth it!!!
I love your idea about adding a charm or something to the holder.
I ended up making a nuch of these the week OF Christmas - so next year, I'll be ahead and will have more time to play. I'd like to add the year too somewhere with a metallic pen - since I want to make these of the g-children every year (while they are still posing for pics!)
I can't wait to see your posts when you get them up!
