I stamped the butterflies on Vellum and then colored them in with my SU markers! I painted a thin layer of clear piping gel on both sides. Cut them apart and added black royal icing for the bodies. The guests were amazed that I had actually stamped them!

This is gorgeous!
------------------------------ Heidi My gallery There's no 'I' in 'team'. But then there's no 'I' in 'useless smug colleague', either. And there's four in 'platitude-quoting idiot'. Go figure.

what a gorgeous cake and a very neat idea. It looks so elegant and detailed, but sounds like you got that look with a very smart, easy technique. Well, easy as in I know it still took lots of time, but not hours on each butterfly. I will have to remember your ingenuity next time I'm making a birthday cake for one of my DDs. One year I make a butterfly shaped cake simply by cutting into parts one circle cake. turned out pretty good!
Anyway, great job! I just love it!
