This card was made for a card challenge sketch that included an optional "masculine" theme. What's more masculine that something metallic with gears on it???
Furnace foil tape is wonderful to work with since it will emboss with even the most fine detail. Since it's sticky on the back, I attached it to black card stock so my Sizzix dies wouldn't cut through it when I ran it through my Big Shot over a rubber embossing mat. Since the die is a corner die, I rotated the panel and followed the same steps on the opposite corner so it covered most of the foil surface with embossed gears. I wanted it a bit more rustic, so used Stazon ink and rubbed the pad directly over the embossed image, then wiped it down with a paper towel to soften the contrast a bit.
The vertical craft cardstock mat behind it was created by inking up the inside of the front of an embossing folder with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then running it through my Big Shot inside the "steampunk" embossing folder. I trimmed it to size and matted both this panel and the foil embossed panel with black cardstock.
The center black gear was die cut three times from black cardstock, then glued as a stack to create a more dimensional element before gluing it to the center flat space of the foil panel.
The final step was to create the "tab" at the bottom of the main card elements by stamping the sentiment from Stampin' Up! (SU) "Itty Bitty Greetings" onto craft cardstock, then die cutting it with a Spellbinders label die. I used the next size up label die to cut a mat out of the silver foil. These were attached together with double sided Scor-Tape since glue doesn't stick all that well to foil.
I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5". If you are an experienced card maker it would be a "2". I think it makes for a great masculine birthday card!
