This first hand-stitched card was made in honor of my Mom's 80th birthday. She is a master cross-stitcher and one amazing crafter in so many areas, and it had been my desire for some time to find a way to make the nicest cards I could make using stitching of some kind.
I apologize for the poor quality of the photos for this card, I made the mistake of not taking photos of the card until I was on the east coast of Canada visiting family, and I only had my Ipod to take photos. Lesson learned!
When I found the Paper Smooches cross-stitch die, I was one happy person!!! I've watched my Mom stitch but only once did a tiny piece of cross-stitch many years ago. I have created 30+ hand-stitched backgrounds and a few tags that I will be using to make a set of all-occasion cards for my Mom to send to her stitching friends, and as those are completed, I will be uploading them.
This project has taught me that stitching is fun, it is very relaxing, and I plan to do more. Most of the backgrounds consist of patterns that I have created, and that too was fun.
My goal was to create a birthday card that my Mom would see that I had made an effort to create something really special just for her, and from her reaction, I think I succeeded, and THAT is what means the most to me.
The hand-stitched pattern as well as the color combination of this piece are both my own.
I hope to learn some more stitches than what I've used on the first 30 background pieces, what I have learned so far was from watching a Jennifer McGuire YouTube on hand-stitching, she has subsequently recorded a few more, she loves hand-stitching, and I now understand why people find stitching so relaxing and enjoyable.
I spent about 2 months creating the 30 hand-stitched backgrounds, and I look forward to finishing them and sending my Mom a large set of assorted cards that she will be able to give to her crafty friends. A very small token of my love, appreciation, and respect that I have for my Mom, who has given so much to me and to our family.

Oh, Joanne! This is gorgeous and truly a work of art and of "heart" on your part. What a joy to see the happiness on your mom's face when she opened this. Obviously, I've quilted and sewn for many decades, and I did my share of cross-stitching. But I've not done anything on paper (other than perforated paper making some ornaments). But making a card like this one is amazing, and I love the gradient colors and the sweet sewing elements! I love it all, and how special to give her a cards to give to her sewing friends! What a precious daughter she has in you. She must be extra special too! Warm hugs and love! xoxo

Wow! This is spectacular. What a wonderful card for your 'stitcher' Mum. The inside is just a great as the outside. Into my faves for sure. Thanks for sharing.
