I was wrapping up my stamping day yesterday when I remembered that I had wanted to try the silhouette technique from TLC673 so I whipped up a truly 10-minute card! I took a scrap of white cardstock and quickly sponged it with orange, hot pink, and red inks in that order.
I also got to try out some new makeup sponges I got from Dollar Tree recently -- they are the kind that have a round base and a handle, and they are easier to avoid leaving lines with than the wedges! Also, I can use them for 3-4 colors by using the base for one color and sides of the handle for others. Very handy for frequent combinations like this orange/pink/red one, just use one sponge for all!
I then stamped the butterfly twice and colored over with Sharpie. I only had a medium point one, if I did the card again I would use a finer point around the edges to make them a little sharper. It covered the stamped image pretty well, but you can kind of see it if you look closely. I might experiment with using a light gray ink under black sharpie next time.
Then I put the card together. I had a rectangular scrap of pink cardstock and attached it to the card front, then did the same with the stamped piece. Added the sentiment sticker (ANCIENT, recently found while cleaning out an old box of craft stuff) and the gold glittery washi tape strip, and DONE!
I love this technique, especially as I like elegant butterfly cards and have quite a few butterfly stamps that are silhouettes or simple patterns but none in this particular size. At the same time the butterfly stamp that came in the "Love Bugs" set didn't thrill me, too cartoony/cutesy with a little face (I got the set mainly for a couple other images and the sentiments) and I had never used it. Now I have a use for it, awesome!
Thanks for this great challenge and thanks for looking!
