Sometimes things just work out....this was in the works yesterday afternoon.
Tuesday I went with several friends to lunch and then on to see the movie, "Woman in Gold"....the saga of Gustav Klimt's "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I". The movie is what REALLY inspired me to create a thank you card for the friend who had put together this wonderful afternoon. I LOVED the movie. Although Klimt's painting took three years for him to complete, I did my card in a micro percentage of that time. : ) It's not intended to duplicate Klimt's technique, but to evoke the "feeling of". As one of my "hobbies du jour", I did gold leafing. I saved all my "flakes" from burnishing in a box. These happen to be from faux leaf in silver, gold and Dutch metal.(What you perceive as "white" spots are the silver) I sized my paper haphazardly and then laid the paper face down into the box, burnished the leaf, sealed, embossed, and sponged on some TH inks. The butterfly was done with the embossing resist technique on a separate piece of paper and then cut out and pasted on the bg. It is a thank you, but I did not want to add words to the face of the card.

Sallie this is brilliant!!! I love how you combined the gold leafing with the embossing..so beautiful. I can definitely see the Klimt influence in this card. And I love the turquoise color....it gives that feel of an oxidization or patina used with the leafing.

I peeked at this from work, but wanted to wait till I was home to leave a comment. It's WOW, Sallie. The different embossed textures with the gilding look fantastic. With the metallic gold and rich turquoise blue, it made think of Egyptian tombs, all those inlaid sarcophagi. Maybe, now I think about it, they were more often a lapis lazuli blue, but they were the first thing I thought of. Well, the second - the first was that we used the same butterfly .

Even before I read your description, I thought of Gustav Klimt the minute I saw your card! What a wonderful evocation of his art! The gold leaf is so beautiful and I love the way it is a bit random.
