This is the card I made to honor our most deserving QFTD Nancy (stiz2003). I have been a fan of hers for quite a while, and couldn't be more thrilled to see her honored in this way.
The background was a reject from an earlier challenge to use actual leaves as stamps. I wasn't pleased with it, but never throw anything away, since I believe you can fix just about anything with gesso! I gave it a light coat of watered down white gesso and let it dry. I inked the IO text bg stamp with Khaki and pressed the paper onto it in random fashion, then heat set the ink. Next came a coat of watered down gesso that had just a tad of Rusty Hinge Distress Paint mixed in for a warmer tone. When it dried, I randomly (and lightly) sponged a little Distress Pumice Stone ink through a stencil.
I cut a piece of wide Sookwang tape (Scor-tape or Be Creative tape) and backed with a piece of liner paper saved from another project. I die cut the leaves, removed one side of the liner paper and stuck them to the background, pressing them down well and gently using my bone folder to be sure they were adhered. The top liner was removed and the leaves "leafed". It seems a little strange to be making a fall card now, but I only have fall colors of leafing foil... I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to position the sentiment and added a copper foil paper mat before attaching to the card base with foam tape.
It's been gloomy here, so the picture isn't the greatest, but I am really pleased with the card and I hope Nancy is, too.
As always, thanks for looking!

This is a stunner! Believe me, meant in a totally Good way, if there was any doubt about that. :-) The foil looks amazing and the details on how you rescued your previous leaf card greatly appreciated. I bought my first bottle of gesso months ago and haven't had the courage to use it yet. I love the look you have achieved and it may just be the inspiration I need. TFS

Your leaves are so pretty using your technique and I really like the background. You should give me a lesson in salvaging things. When I make mess of mine, they usually hit the wastebasket.

I'm not sure how to use some of the items you've described, but I am sure that what you've created is absolutely STUNNING!!! And I too love when a rejected project can be re-used. This is so beautiful, and a great CASE!! Hugs

Oh I'm right there with you. So, glad you didn't throw this piece out, because it's a stunner. You did a wonderful job "re-creating" The Gesso gave you a soft and lovely canvas to work with while still staying true to your original design. As Martha Stewart would say, "that's a good thing!"
