So we had to use newspaper and gesso. Not being a painter, I had to make gesso, and not having seen gesso, I have no idea what it's supposed to look like.
I taped some newspaper to a piece of grey cs, which was probably my first mistake. Then I added a glaze of gesso over that, and dried it with the heat gun. Not impressive. Repeated with similar results. Remaining unimpressed, I glopped a bunch all over and then used heat gun to bubble it and almost started a fire.
Decided to stop using heat gun.
Sprayed some Adirondack Sunset Orange and Teal. Figured I should stop before things got any worse.
Not wild about gesso so far.

I too love your description of your adventure in gesso. The texture is fabulous. I have Liquitex gesso that is so thick it is thicker than pudding and I applied and then smoothed it out with an old credit card. I didn't do any better with applying Mod Podge to the paper and then the newspaper. It is an awesome tool, give it another try some day.

I think your Gesso background turned out great. But I can definitely relate to the problems you encountered. I am presently waiting for two Gesso'd pieces to dry to see if I can use them on a card. Your newsprint shows through the Gesso, which mine doesn't, and I can't figure out why I'm using newsprint if I'm covering it up.
Oh well, congrats for trying Mix6 and for persevering to meet the challenge.
