This card is for September's DD/DDA Monthly challenge(DCDINNERS0909)! This month I am hosting and I assigned everyone to share a "Dirty Dinner" recipe.
The shared recipe must be one that is cooked from ingredients added together. The main thing was that the recipe works. The whole family loves it and eats it when you serve it. Now, this is one of those love hate southern recipes. Either you LOVE it or you HATE it.
One of the requirements is to give alittle bit of the history of this dirty recipe. This recipe is something I have eaten all of my life. I was taught how to roll out the pastry, cut strips, and hang over the sides of many bowls to air dry a bit before cooking. I have never used a recipe to prepare this meal. It is just one of those meals that is just learned. Many in the south call this Chicken and Dumplings. My family has always called it Chicken Pastry. Dumplings are round and really thick and another recipe altogether in my family.
I have been redoing many of my recipes and started putting them into clear envelops which allow me to use the recipe without getting them dirty. This measures 6 X 6.
Please check out this blog post for more recipe card details, pictures, and commentary.
I am also using Beate's weekend sketch for this challenge (WSC9. DCDINNERS0909 gallery link to so you can check out the other dirty girls dirty dinner recipes!!!

Love this recipe card - I have been thinking about making a recipe book with my group and this just made up my mind. Really cute and sounds yummy, too!

Betty, your page looks wonderful!
This sounds a lot like what we call chicken pot pie (it's not like a pie at all...not sure how the name oringinated- maybe Amish?) It's the only pasta I make from scratch. I use my grandmother's recipe and roll it out by hand.
Thanks for the fun challenge!

What an interesting variation of one of my family's favorites (Chicken & Dumplins), Betty, I'll have to give it a try! Wonderful recipe page -- thanks for the challenge!
