This is my entry for today's Limited Supplies Challenge for making a masculine card by making a series of choices from a menu for images, colors, and embellishments. I chose:
1) a non-floral nature image (fern)
2) green/brown color scheme
3) eyelets
I didn't think I had a comfort zone for color schemes (I thought I'm usually up for anything), but I found myself really stretching with the green/brown color scheme today. I'm still not sure how I feel about my card because of the colors!
I stamped my fern image in brown on vellum (and heat set it). The "for you" sentiment is stamped on the green cardstock underneath the vellum. I've always wanted to use corrugated paper in a card and remembered today why I still hadn't (even though I've had my paper crinkler for years!)--it's a real challenge adhering corrugated paper to your project, and then adhering anything else on top!! I kinda flattened it in the process, but I still like the depth it gives the card, so I'm going to try to start using it more. I created the background by dragging a brown and green ink pad across white cardstock. Tried another new technique today--faux paper stitching in the corners. It's kinda hard to see it in the photo, though.
And there you have it. It's definitely a woodsy, masculine card. I'm still trying to decide whether I like it--it's rather different from what I normally make. But I'm glad I tried it (gotta get out of that comfort zone!) and it was really fun choosing from the takeout menu of choices for the card!
Thanks for looking!

I like it a lot Emily! (and you are right, it IS difficult to adhere crimped paper to cardstock, but youdid so beautifully and it really adds nice depth and texture to a card). I can't believe you made such lovely background paper just by dragging an inkpad across paper - you make it look professional! Excellent job with the challenge. This really is a nice soft yet masculine card, a difficult combination to pull off, and you did so beautifully! Strong work!

Woodsy and masculine indeed! That corrugated paper does sound like a pain to use and adhere. Thanks for the tip!
I like the effect you got by dragging your ink pads across the paper for that background.
