Wowsa! Loved the cracklin' challenge. It made me go outside of my comfort zone to try a new technique! Thank you! And the sketch challenge was fab, too!
I combined them and went to a tutorial on the cracked glass technique this evening. Very cool idea. Or so I thought, until I very stupidly tried this technique with wood veneers. (Sheeez. Have I learned nothing? LOL.)
Okay, so not a good idea to do this technique with wood veneers. They are ever so fragile to begin with ... the whole heating and freezing thing does NOT make them happy.
Nevertheless, I went with the flow and managed to eek out this card.
I laid down two different wood veneers as the background over black and really rust. Wrapped ribbon around the base. Stamped the dragonfly over yet another color of veneer in choc chip and clear embossed it 3 times. Froze it. Tried to crack it. Not. Re-embossed it, froze it and tried to crack it again. Not. The veneers rebelled and broke under the sheer duress of it all!
Went to Plan B and inked them with Black Staz On with the Weathered BG stamp. Decided the broken pieces added an interesting element, so mounted them on black squares and popped them up with dimensionals.
I kinda' like how it turned out, despite the trials and tribulations of making it.
The long and the short of it ... am calling this dismal failure an abstract card!
Lemme' know what you think! Thanks for the challenges and thanks for looking!

It is beautiful! And you should be commended for your adventurous spirit and determination! I love that you so readily tried something different! And then made it work!

Divine Ms M, lets get something straight: in no way is this a dismal failure! Girl, clean those glasses! From where I'm sitting, this is one fabulous card! Love the cracked glass technique and that woodgrain bg is to magnificent That's my opinion, and i'm sticking to it.
