I think they score better much than the trimmer's scoring blade. Your cardstock is laid over a metal ridge and the scoring tool stays on that track giving you a score that looks like a "V" so that when you fold the card, there's room for the crease and the cardstock doesn't break or crack. This is how cards you purchase are scored. It gives such a clean professional look.
Another reason I really like it is that it has a zero centering ruler on it so no matter what you are scoring, you can easily find its exact center. That also comes in handy for cutting something in the center because you can find the center on the Scor-It, put a little mark there and cut it with your trimmer.
I got mine for $45 dollars a while back, and thought it was a great investment.
