What have you all found to be the best white cardstock for card bases. I love love love SU whisper white for stamping on but I don't care for it as a base because I feel like it isn't quite as sturdy. I try to only use SU colors for the bases or confetti white/cream because of the strength but I was wondering if anyone has found a better alternative and cheaper would be even better yet!
I get Georgia Pacific cardstock at Walmart. A ream of it costs around $5 or $6, and I like it fine. It's not as thick as SU colored cs, but it's durable enough.
I'm a Papertrey Stampers Select fan. I also love Cryogen White - the same as Shimmer white, but much cheaper. I get it at a local paper supply company, but I'm pretty sure you can get it online too. Just search the forums and the source will pop up I'm sure.
I've been using papertrey too but just purchased a ream of GP at Walmart to see if I can add some savings on the white base (when I use a white base)
I like to use the papertrey white for embossing with my cuttlebug though - perfect!
(oh and I too save my SU! WW for stamping on)
Ok, I did a comparison and the GP cardstock is quite a bit thinner and has a "funny" look to it. Well, it will be good for scratch paper and certainly didn't break the bank.

This is my choice as well. Very inexpensive and very sturdy. I love Papertrey, but it is more expensive than the GP.
I've heard these papers mentioned many times. Do you happen to know a good online retailer?? :p
Well, if you wanna purchase each by the ream (250 sheets), try www.paperzone.com --I bought mine at one of their stores in Seattle, WA area--Tukwila, to be precise. I don't recall the price offhand, tho . . . Anyhoo, I've heard they closed that particular one down since then. They do have other stores; I'm betting if they don't carry these in their online shop, you can probably call one of the other stores listed in their directory and order by mail . . . ?
Otherwise, if you'd be interested in a 25 sheet pack, I highly recommend Ellen Hutson, LLC for:
Domtar from Staple..250 sheets for 15.00..it's all i use..also color on it too..prisma's and gamsol, or su watercolor crayons..
I did a rose border with prisama's and gamsol..check it out..worked beautifuly
loves ya

I use Beckett Expressions in Iceburg or Radiance for a nice white paper that is very similar to SU Whisper White, but a nicer white and just slightly heavier. http://www.papermatters.com/scripts/...over&delcart=0
I bought some of the Papertrey white as well, and simply adore it.

I use Classic Linen Cover and I buy a ream at a time its way cheaper than SU It's $27.20 for 250 sheets which is 500 A2 Cards. I go through about 2 - 3 reams a year i believe. I also get my Stardream paper from them also.
Mostly, I use the Cryogen White but an equal favorite is Malmero Pearle which is whiter and much less shimmery and heavier weight. I think I will give the Neenah Solar White a try although it seems a bit lighter weight than what I like.
Neenah Classic Crest Solar White is a good one, too.
I have never heard of this one. Can you tell me where you get it?
I am also going to check the price of Papertrey out as price factors in a bit since it is for cards for my card ministry at church. Maybe looking for cheap and sturdy is asking too much. LOL
I have the GP and I actually use it for stamping on for the card ministry since it is cheaper but it isn't strong enough to hold up a card with a couple of layers. My test is that I want to make the card and then it should be able to support its own weight if someone wanted to sit it up on a table or something with out it collapsing and the GP cardstock just can't do that unless it is a one layer card with no embellishments.
I am going to check out the Classic Linen Cover too. Thanks for all the links and I am going to go check them out now.
Just want to make sure I understand....
These papers that have been mentioned, these are for bases correct, not for stamping on? I mean that was the OP I think. Reason I want to clarify is that I am looking for a really good white paper to stamp on, trying for the simple, minimalist effect of Julie HRR. I purchased the GP from WalMart, used Memories black, it's okay, but doesn't have the POP I'm looking for.
I'm also in the process of purchasing black ink, such as India Ink, Palette Noir and Versafine black, which I hope will give a clean, crisp image. I believe the ink and paper go hand in hand in getting this image.
BTW, thanks for all of the information! This community really has a ton of knowledge.

Yes, I am looking for a good sturdy white base, not necessarily a good stamping image as I don't mind using the GP for that, although it isn't the greatest for stamping and when it isn't working out, I use SU whisper white but I am a hobby demo so it helps when I order SU when ever I can to help me reach my minimums.
I have the black versa fine ink and I love the black image that it gives. It is such a deep rich color and nice and crisp when used on good paper. The drawback for me is that is that it takes a little while to dry or needs to be heat set so doesn't work well for assembly line work or for new stampers and that is what I have for my card ministry. I use it for my personal use all the time, especially since I can't seem to find my SU black pad at the moment. LOL
