check the other threads as they are a WEALTH of information; but my two cents worth is that I am very happy with my Tonic guillotine style trimmer. I don't craft everyday or cut a large quantity of cardstock at one time. Just a card, two or three in an afternoon now and then.
Years ago I had an old wooden heavy duty style guillotine trimmer bought from an office supply place and hated it....so I avoided them ever since. But after reading the threads reference above I decided to take a chance on the Tonic as I was fed up with my Fiskars Triple Track "sliding-thingy" type never giving me a perfectly straight cut.
I've been through my fair share of trimmers but my favourite one is my ordinary stationary shop guillotine. It may not be a pretty pink colour and it may not have a light to show where I'm cutting and it doesn't play the iPod thorugh it but it DOES cut a brilliant straight line, it DOESN'T need replacement blades and it DIDN'T break the bank. I don't think I'll ever buy a 'scrapbooking' trimmer again.
Check out Jennifer Mcguire's blog. She gives a run down on her favorite trimmer, and it is because of her I went and bought the Fiskars that she recommend. I have to say I think it is my new fav! Here is the
I also got the Fiskar's trimmer that Jennifer Maguire Suggested & I love it. I've had dozens of trimmers over the years ranging from $10 to 300 & this is my favorite. It cuts straight & easily. I can set it aside when I'm not using it. I have a large cutter that takes up space all the time & that frustrates me. I keep it to cut chipboard & that's it. I used my coupon on the trimmer & got it for under $20. Love it! JIL
I got a MM at Michael's with 50% coupon. reat price and I love it!!
Another vote for the Making Memories trimmer. It makes nice clean cuts and has a self-sharpening blade. I had a couple of Fiskars and liked them okay, but got tired of having to buy and change the blades!

I have to say I loved the mm trimmer, but my DGD #1 tried to trim a twig and it didn't work. It did, however, bend the trimming blade and it was unable to be replaced, so that was $50 down the drain. I replaced it with the fiskars that Jennifer McGuire suggests. I have had it about 6 months or so and love it. I used a coupon at J's and it was cheap(good since DGD #1 and #2 are adventurous cutters). So far, it cuts straight, but my favorite part is all the measurement markings. Very easy to tell what you are cutting. Good luck choosing.

I love my Making Memories trimmer, which I purchased at Hobby Lobby with a 40% off coupon. Very affordable!
One of the things I love most is that the all important 4 1/4" and 5 1/2" marks are on the main body of it without extending the extra bed.
The bed of the trimmer accomodates a full 12 x 12" sheet, but it folds in half. That's the way I keep in on my table. It is not a rinky-dink flip-out ruler - when you unfold it, it is the whole bed, very sturdy.
I have a Dahle trimmer that I love, but it's an old one and doesn't have the extended bed or even a ruler to cut 12" I like the idea of the Making Memories Trimmer folding in half, but with the whole bed available. Watching the Demo on the Making Memories, they say it is recommended to cut ONLY paper. How about card stock or thin chipboard, like cereal boxes?
Whatever trimmer you get, I would suggest you get either a rotary blade trimmer or a guillotine type trimmer. The trimmer with those stupid little v-blades are horrible. I have the Making Memories one and I love it. I also have a small 6" fiskars guillotine one and it works great for smaller stuff.
