Question Paper Tear/Rolling Techinique

In the SU Idea Book there are many cards that use a paper tear/rolling technique. I'm sure that's not the correct name, but I'm new to stamping and I'm not sure what's called. It can be seen on the top of page 136 where it is shown with the Natural Beauty set and page 141 with the Lovely as a Tree set. Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated!!

Looks like you just rip and roll to me. I'd pratice a few times with some scraps. Maybe a little water helps too. Try painting on some water and wearing away a hole.

Some things I have learned through reading and trial and error are the following.

1.You will get different effects by tearing the paper toward you versus away from you.
2. You will get different looks by how firm you hold the paper as you tear. Some people prefer less of a "controled" tear for a more distressed look.

3. Taking an aquapainter or water brush and drawing a line where you want the tear to be helps me to better control over my tear line.
4. After you have your paper torn, I take a pencil and use that to roll the edges.

HTH,
Sharon - PM me if you have any other questions and I'll help all I can.

another thing you can do is rub your bone folder against the edge of your paper, it will cause edge of the paper to seperate into 2 layers...giving the edge a weathered look

Tear your CS, using your preferred method of tearing. Then I spray the edge lightly with water and roll the torn edge between my fingers and thumb, and let dry naturally or dry with your heat gun.

I find using the "Tearing Edge" ripping toward the ruler gives a rolled effect without doing anything else. I'm into simplifying the process. Hope this helps! Judy

Judy, you will think this is dumb, but what does it do to roll the paper, I tear a lot but have never rolled. Is this a dumb question? Slaybell

The rolling just gives the paper a little more dimension and antiquey look. It is very cute you must try it, see if you like it.

I have had success with misting with water after tearing the edge. The wet paper will "roll" easier. I also like to sponge the edges (of DRY paper) of the tear, and the straight edge of the paper with either the same ink color as the cs or using C.Caramel/CloseT Cocoa/ C. Chip to give a vintage look.
