You did a great job. I'm anxious to have time to try it.

Very nice tutorial! I first saw this at a rubberstamping convention I attended a couple of years ago. I've been doing my translucent paste with soft pastel chalk, not ink. I will have to give the ink a try! Here's two that I did a while back (sorry they're not in focus). The first uses translucent paste with soft pastels. The second uses the opaque paste. I used Stampendous Multi Ultra Fine Crystal Glitter on both. I recently picked up a jar of metallic gold and another of metallic silver embossing paste that I'm looking forward to trying. One suggestion - I learned to spatula on the paste (one direction only, not back and forth) and to use a minisqueege to remove the excess paste. Also, instead of painter's tape, we used rectangular yellow sticky notes (but don't use colored ones - they'll leave color behind if they get damp). Not sure if one works better than the other, but thought I'd pass on what I learned!

Lightbulb Where to buy Dreamweaver embossing paste

I've never seen it at Michaels. Our local stamping store has the opaque paste as well as the metallic. I lucked out last weekend and found the translucent paste at a local scrapbooking store. I was getting low, so I stocked up!

Here's a link to Dreamweaver who makes the paste:

I hope you can find some - it's really fun to work with!

Your card is absolutely beautiful. I just took an embossing class on the weekend and can't wait to get into it more. What kind of paint and stencil brush are you using. This is new for me and I have no idea. Can you use chalk? Your tutorial is wonderful. I feel like a sponge and can't wait to try all the new ideas on this website!!

Hi Molah,

I used SU inks to get the color that I wanted. I have never used chalk on top of the paste before but I don't see why you can't. If I were to use chalk though I think I would use the white embossing paste, wait for it to dry and than use the chalk or markers.I have used markers on top of dried white embossing paste. I used a small sized stencil brush in my tutorial becuase the stencil areas were not that big. It just depends on what size your stncil is. Hope this helps.

I'll try that - but have you ever put chalk underneath the translucent embossing paste? I'll have to try it and see what happens, but I wondered if the paste will still stick to the paper? I'll have to ask my SU person for some more tips using the ink pads.

If you are in a tight spot, you can also use Spackling. Spackling is the white toothpaste-like stuff that you put into the holes in your walls before you paint. I like to squeegie it onto stencils of palm fronds. Once they are dry, I do not paint them at all. For instance: White palm fronds on dark green card stock. The fronds, when dry, become a ghostly white, raised frond against the dark background. I hope this helped.

Great tutorial. I was adding color after applying the paste and never liked the way it looked. You just solved my dilemna. Thanks for taking the time to do this and share it with us!

Great job on the tutorial. I enjoyed your blog, too. Good grief, I could spend all day at the computer with the depth of SCS and other links.
Thanks for your hard work!

I actually did my kitchen above the counters doing something similar (a big sunfower stencil and joint compound). Never even crossed my mind for a card. What a cool idea! Gonna have to find time to go to Michael's and pick some up. Thanks for the wonderful tutorial!!!

I have seen tubes of "texture" paste in either A.C.Moore or Michael's, I think in both colored and white, in the section where their wall stencils are. I had looked at it and wondered if it was the same sort of thing I had seen at convention (the dreamweaver paste) but did not buy it because I wasn't too sure how to use it. (That was BEFORE I saw the tutorial!) : )

I was also lucky enough recently to find a local stamp store which the Dreamweaver product, so I still haven't tried the ACM or M's product -- but if you can't find the product in your area, try your chain craft stores and look in their wall decor departments. The tubes are similar to big toothpaste tubes.

The stamp store owner said you can make your own colored paste by adding small amounts of acrylic paint to the white paste. Haven't tried that yet.
