Cuttlebug/Nesties: You CAN Cut and Emboss In One Pass!!
Being the lazy crafter that I am, I was tired of having to switch plates and make two passes with my Cuttlebug and my Nestabilities. Soooo, I figured out that you can cut and emboss ALL IN ONE PASS!! Here's the sandwich that I used (bottom to top):
A PLATE
2-3 pieces of CS for shims
C PLATE
Nestability, ridge side up
Cardstock/DP for cutting (face down, if two-sided)
B PLATE
Run it through the Cuttlebug, and VOILA!!
WARNING: I found that as I did this over and over, that my B PLATE got pretty disfigured. I flip flop my B plate every time I run it through and it eventually flattens itself back out. I replace my B PLATES on a pretty regular basis, so this doesn't bother me. ALSO, this is a pretty tight fit - it WILL go through but will require some elbow grease. Hope this helps some other lazy crafters like me!! hehehe

OOOOOOOOO! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I was hoping I could do this. Everyone says the paper stays in the nestie but mine falls out all the time, so maybe this will help me.
I have a nestability question for ya- I need the tan embossing mat, but I don't want to pay $6.94 for an $8.99 item at Spellbinders. I remembered that someone said they went to the hardware store to buy something called plumbers gasket because its essentually the same thing. Anyone have any other ideas to help me use my still sitting in the package scallop circles?
Just tried garkarlon's recipe and it worked beautifully! Thank you, thank you!
Melissa, you can use your scallop nesties without a mat. They just won't have the embossing line that is being discussed in this thread. If you want the embossing line just use garkarlon's suggestion and no mat is needed. Make sense? If not, just pm me.

Thank you. I will be trying this. I have not had a lot of success embossing, for some reason. And I am a bit on the lazy side as well! have you broken any plates? I have, but I think with CB dies, not Nesties.
WOW! This is exactly why I have never "embossed" my nestie cuts.... I was too lazy to go again..... I knew there had to be a way to do it all at once, but hadn't sat down to go through the trouble..... YOU ROCK for doing this and sharing it! Hugs!
Just to be sure I understand, I would need to place my stamped image face down in this sandwich, right? Could you reverse it somehow so you could have the image face up so you could stamp first then cut/emboss? Thanks.
On this site, it is suggested that you use a silicon baking sheet rather than fun foam in the cuttlebug when embossing with the Fiskar plates. I wonder if this might be a alternative to the tan embossing mat or the plumbers gasket.
I have used the plumbers gasket successfully and don't see that much difference than using the tan embossing mat.
It's really nice to find these less expensive alternatives.

If you want to be able to see your stamped image before you cut/emboss, you should tape your nestie (using repositionable tape), ridge side down, then flip it over so that the cutting ridge is against your B PLATE. You should NOT cut against your C PLATE as your nestie will get stuck. Does that make sense?

I've never broken any plates, but they sure look/sound like they're going to break when I run it through. I don't think the plates are meant to last forever. Thank goodness they're relatively inexpensive to replace.
I use the nesties in my CB and don't have the tan embossing mat, but I do have a cheap thin mouse pad coaster - it was a freebie from some company and it works perfectly.
When I cut and emboss in one run, I use the sandwich stack that is almost like above, but I use a chipboard coaster and the mouse pad coaster and it comes out perfectly. I actually use A, C, Nestie, cs or dp, chipboard, mouse pad, then B plate.

I bow down to you oh queen of the Nestabilities sandwich
Just tried this and it worked like a charm. Thank you for posting this Karolyn and to the rest for posting your solutions as well. I may yet try those too!!

I tried this yesterday as I was making 30 tags for a friend's baby shower invitations. The cardstock really got squished and you could feel that it was much thinner afterwards. I'm sure I noticed it more because the tags were so small. It was still worth doing because it saved me SO much time. Thanks for the tip!
Clear cutting plates???????????????2 of them??????????I don't have any. And no tan embossing mat?????????????
Maybe I'm not using the right term for the plates. But it's the clear plates that you always use when cutting with the sizzix. I don't use the tan mat. I will check everything out tonight when I get home and post agin with the correct names.
well it appears all machines have been covered except the wizard;
any ideas how to do it with that machine. I switched to that after
my cuttlebug broke. Maybe, I can try tomorrow to see if the suggestions
above work

You can use this method to cut/emboss with the image face up also. You just need to switch around the plates and the cardstock/nestie.
A PLATE
2-3 pieces of CS for shims
B PLATE
Cardstock/DP for cutting (face UP)
Nestability, ridge side DOWN
C PLATE
You'll still be cutting into your B plate but you'll be able to see where you're placing the nestie on your image.
I work at my LSS and use this method all the time and it works well. Plus, then you don't end up with tape stickiness all over your nestie. Good Luck!
Thanks GARKARLON for sharing this method! I'm lazy, too!
Someone asked for a substitute for the tan embossing mat or plumber's gasket---you can also use those 'rubber' jar openers. But Thank You for the line up above I'm going to try it right now!
