Hi!
This came up in another thread...
If y'all are from the state famous for crabs & jousting...let us know what city and county you are in!
Michelle
Actually in Abingdon, Harford County, but I just tell everyone Baltimore!
Hey Michelle! I currently live in Virginia but I grew up in Bel Air. That's where all my family still is! (But when people ask were I'm from, I always tell people Baltimore too--it's just easier!)

Exactly. I grew up in the DC area..so when people ask..that's the easiest way to describe your location.
Hi! Nice to know! Bel Air is right up the street from us. (literally)
A very sweet community! I love it here!
The place is changing like mad! Houses! Houses! Houses! are being built everywhere! Whooee!
Michelle
Hey all! Just got back from the movies at Annapolis Mall, and I live in Severna Park.
Grew up in Takoma Park until 3rd grade
University Park until I got married
Severna Park now
do you see a trend?? What other parks can I live in?haha
Stolynn-where in PG County? I graduated from UMD (go Terps!) and went to Eleanor Roosevelt HS in Greenbelt.
And to top it all off, we named our son Camden after Camden yards (GO O's!!!!!)

I know right where you all are! My husband and I love Harford County but everytime we go home we're amazed at how much it has grown. It is unbelievable in the last 20 years--it's a totally different place, but still a very nice place to be from!
And about all the houses. . . . whenever I brought friends home from college with me that's the one thing everybody commented on. They said, it's all houses!

OMG! I went to DuVal..right down the street. I'll let you know how hold I am. Roosevelt took 1/2 of my graduating class the year they opened. (my junior year) I grew up in Lanham. Lived in Greenbelt before I moved here.
Let me see--I was born in Baltimore, grew up in Severna Park(Arnold to be exact) and then Catonsville and now live in Dundalk. We are getting ready to move to York, Pa, but I still consider myself a Marylander or a Baltimoron--however you want to look at it!!

If we just change that "is" to "was" then I could say "I am! I am!" I lived in Crofton, Anne Arundel County. There are times when I wish I lived there now and times I'm glad I don't. The don'ts usually occured when I was visiting in the summer and couldn't handle the heat and humidity.
Pam-that explains your sarcasm that I love!! Must be a MD thing
And Stolyn-here is what I tell my DH when I get irritated with people and I want to tell them off (especially in a mall when sales people act so rude)-You can take the girl out of PG County, but you can't take the PG County out of the girl!!
My best guy friend in High School went to Duval-we graduated in '88.

Hi Britta ~ who grew up right down the road from where I live now! I live in College Park (PG County), home to the University of Maryland. I grew up in Columbia (Howard County).
Carolyn ~ I just got home from a crop in Germantown put on by Scrapbook corner.
I'm out here in Columbia, MD - howard county.
Grew up in PG county. So, that's what we're blaming the sarcastic humor on? That explains a lot about me. :-)
and yes, I blame it on PG County-it has worked so far!LOL
But I lived in Anne Arundel County not PG. Though the county line was really close to where I lived so maybe some of that PG county attitude just kind of oozed over.
I'm from Bel Air too!!! (I'm addicted2stamping's sister-I'm just not so green-hee hee hee!) Harford County is a great place to live and heaven knows you have plenty of options with all the houses! ! I'm in VA Beach but I love heading north for some real crabcakes!
Please, please - you have to stop talking about the crab cakes! Some of the restaurants list crab cakes on their menus - made with dungeoness crabs but they really have no idea what a crab cake is! One place I was at put chunks of potato in them?????
Whenever I go to MD there are some things I have to have:
crab cakes
devil dogs
Dunkin' Doughnuts chocolate cream filled
Tasty Kake Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes
I live in Hagerstown, Washington County. About 1 to 1 1/2 hours from Baltimore. We are BIG Terps fans!!! Go Ravens! We root for the Orioles, but our favorite baseball team is Cubs (I am originally from Chicago).
Nice to meet all you Marylanders out there!
Karen

I'll respond to the Sparrows Point thing--I live in Dundalk and Lynn correct me if I'm wrong, but Sparrows Point is doing alright, right? I know the real estate is booming, a friend of mine just spent an outrageous amount of $$$ on a house there--WOW is all I can say! And, Sparrows Point HS is a magnet school, so I know that's a good thing. Anywho--just wanted to dispel that rumor for you!! Hope that helps!!

I live in Frederick, MD. But also in Severn, MD ( right by Ft. Meade), and Hagerstown, we had to move alot, since my husband was in the Military at that time. Now we are here in Frederick, a beautiful home and 2 awesome boys. Have a great Sunday!!!
She was born in Sparrows Point. I hear that part of town is really bad now.
Can anyone here tell me what it's like? No one really says more than that. I was hoping to try and find out more about that area.
The problem is it's a very blue collar area and people aren't super rich, but it's a VERY nice area. We're so close to the water in the Dundalk/Edgemere/Sparrows Point area that you can pretend you're on vacation. My husband commutes from DC every day. We considered moving a few years ago, but the school my children attend get very good ratings and I wouldn't give that up. I believe this area is more like a small town. Also, you have crime and vandalism everywhere. I'd rather raise my children here than where I grew up. I don't even recognize that area anymore.
This area has always gotten a bad rap. lots of jokes made about the area, etc...I even crack my own LOL. It's really "small town".
Now, when it snows, people put "chairs" in their shoveled out parking spots. The first time I saw this when I came up here, I had to ask my husband what it was all about. He told me that people were saving their spaces. I died laughing. Being from PG Co., I thought...let me show you what we'd do with your chair and your space. Well...I've graduated. I now own traffic cones..and you'd better not mess with my space LOLOLOLOL We like to drive around and see what people "save" their spaces with. It's hysterical.
Me too! Me too! I have lived in Harford County me entire life. We currently live in Forest Hill, but we are moving to Pylesville September 17. We bought a house on 7.2 acres and I get my own scrapping/stamping room in the finished basement where the playroom is;) Yipee!!!
If anyone ever wants to come out to the country and stamp/scrap let me know. I always like to meet new people;
<Please, please - you have to stop talking about the crab cakes! Some of the restaurants list crab cakes on their menus - made with dungeoness crabs but they really have no idea what a crab cake is! One place I was at put chunks of potato in them????? >
Well, I learned never to order crabcakes in a restaurant out of the state of Maryland! While on vacation in March in Charleston (now, nothing against Charleston, mind you!), I ordered crabcakes in 2 different restaurants...one place grilled their crabcakes- and they were about 1/2 inch think and I was squinting to see ANY crab meat pieces! ANd they were yuck! The other place was better, but still not the same- they did broil or fry theirs but they still had crab "flakes" with a lot of filler and some weird seasoning- definitely NOT Old Bay! Oh, well, live and learn!
While in Key West, my husband had to try Stone Crab. He said it was okay, but did not compare to steamed blue crabs! Has anyone SEEN the size of crabs this year!?!? They're monsterous! And SO good!!
Mary
We lived in Laurel before moving to Severna Park (we rented a townhouse in not such a great area-I would see people drinking as they walked from the liquor store at 7am!)
When I first moved out I lived in Foxfire apts. in Laurel as well!

Hi Ladies - I too grew up in MD! I was born in Cheverly at PG General! My family moved to Gambrills when I was 2. I lived there until I got married when My DH and I moved to Kent Island. IN 2000, he got hired by the Fredrick Co. Fire Department, and we moved to Frederick. Just 1 year ago, we moved to Gettysburg,PA. It's beautiful here, but they make fun of my "accent". I didn't know I HAD an accent!
Take care HONS!
Go O's, Ravens and TERPS!
Was just in Gettysburg last weekend to visit Boyds Bear Country with my daughter and my niece. It's such a short drive from MD -- (see I'm still on topic! ). That is a fun place to visit if anyone has ever thought about checking it out.
I graduated in 1976...so I'm a fair bit older (ACK!) than you! I was the last year that went split shifts (my graduating class had 1,200!). I lived in Maryland City at the time when I was in high school. Went to MacArthur Jr. High on Ft. Meade.
It's funny how many of the teachers that I had are still teaching!!! Did you ever have Mrs. Marty Smith for home ec or foods class?
