Is there any way to get a Nesties Catalog? I am not usually a fan of a paper catalog anymore due to the fact there's internet, but I would love, love, love a Nesties Catalog.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get one? I'm dying to have one!
A big thanks to Billie Dee, I just got the Spellbinders, "Splendid Circles" and it was not coming out of the die. Tried the waxed paper trick and it works like a charm. Now I have two cunning little waxed paper doily things as well, will have to come up with a use for them, too cute to throw out.
I have just received my brand new set of Persian Accents and they do not cut right through card/paper. I have tried different GSM card thickness and used shims, but they just will not cut completely through. Compared to my other Spellbinders dies the metal and cutting edges seem thinner. Has anyone else had problems?
I don't have Persian Accents , but I do have a couple of the new lighter colored dies. I laid the shaft of a sewing pin next to the ridges to measured the depth on the older ones and the newer ones and you are right!
The ridge is not as deep on the newer ones.
I think it is the new paint they are using. The old paint must have been thinner and left a sharper ridge. The new paint collects a bit at the base of the ridge and makes it slightly more shallow.
However, mine are cutting. I have the new Edgeabilities Classic Petal which is quite intricate. It cut in one pass with my Cuttlebug and no extra shims.
I use the A (base) --B plate--Cardstock ( Georgia Pacific) Die-- C plate and ran it through.
In my haste to try it I forgot to put wax paper between the CS and the die and spent a lot of time with a tooth pick pushing out the parts left in the die :(

I have a Big Shot, and lots of Spellbinders Dies, including the new edgeabilities.....they all work fine, but these new dies just will not cut. I am thinking of returning them and asking the retailer for a refund :(
Ok i missed something along the Nestie way... I have a doily die with very intricate designing. I plan on trying it out tomorrow. Can someone explain the wax paper? Pretty please? :-)

You put the wax paper between the die and the card stock that you are cutting. As the previous person said, it just makes it easier to get the card stock out of the die (some of the intricate dies are REALLY hard to remove without the wax paper). Enjoy your new dies!!

I have a metal shim and have not found it to be particularly useful. I tried it with my Cuttlebug a couple of times but it didn't seem to make the dies cut any better. Maybe others have had a better experience and can comment, but I didn't think it did anything. I did see a video that was done by someone at Memory Box on how to spot shim an intricate die. They used layers of tape over areas that seem to have trouble cutting. Might be worth trying if you're having trouble. Here is a link to the video: How to Shim Intricate Memory Box Dies - YouTube

I am hobbling with my knee recovery. So I am playing with all kinds of my toys and tools. Good time to learn new things. I dont have my shim yet so I am going to give it a whirl without it. Keeping my fingers crossed
OMG! The wax paper and the die worked perfectly I saw a couple of areas that looked like it didnt cut well so I rotated it a bit and ran it through the Bug again and it was perfect. The second time through actually loosened it up and it came out of the die easily and I didnt even have alot of areas I had to punch out. I love this!
I have only been using the Tim Holtz dies and Sizzix dies for a short time now, but it bothers me when all the little tiny scraps stick to the foam on the die. I was picking them all off with the tweezers and thought there had to be an easier way.
I spotted a can of pressurized "air" sitting by the computer and thought, that's it. I held the die over the garbage can, blew it clean with the can of air and the die looked like new again.
Now, if only creative ideas would come that easily.
IF my BIG KICK doesn't cut all the way through..I rearrange my plates and also just run it through the BIG KICK backwards. Seems to do the trick!
do you know if the SPELLBINDERS GRAND NESTIBILITIES - all sizes - will fit to cut in your BIG KICK? I am panicing a bit, I had a 50% off Michaels coupon and bought that set and now I am wondering how many of them I'll be able to use and I want to use all of them!!!
Help! Someone recently posted a list of measurements for many of Spellbinders Nesties, but I didn't bookmark the page. Now, I would like to refer back to it and can't find it! Did someone by any chance see this also and happen to note who posted it?

I went to a class at my LSS yesterday to see and learn about the "cut, tuck and fold dies" from Spellbinders. The finished product looked good, but oh the problem getting the paper out of the die! They didn't have any greaseproof paper to try either and it was very frustrating. A few of us ended up ripping the cutout trying to get it out as we had others in the class waiting to use the dies. I decided I could live without one of those dies. LOL. I thought I had enough trouble with Persian Accents that I bought recently but these were worse.

Can you buy Waxed Paper where you live? If so, place that between the die and the cardstock before cutting. Your die will pop right out of the die with no issues.
Hi Deb, yes I use waxed paper at home all the time, but there was none available at the class. Near the end of the class (when it was too late) I realised that as the Scrapbook store was in a little shopping centre, I could have nicked over the the supermarket which was only about 100metres away and bought a roll! LOL. Hopefully if they run that class again they will have a roll there!
OK, another question. Is there a difference between "classic" and "standard" circles and ovals? On one site, I've seen "classic;" and on the other, I've seen "standard." I want to make sure I'm getting the right ones. Thanks.

I know this will sound silly, but put a piece of waxed paper on the die and then your cardstock. Cut/emboss as you normally would and your pendant will come out so good. Try it and tell us how it worked!!
Thank you Debbie. This worked great for me. Without the wax paper my fluer de list squares tore each time i used them. With the wax paper they come right out. It is wonderful, I will keep a roll in my craft room from now on.

I found that using a paper shim works better than the metal shims, after trying one a friend had. I did read some time ago that Cheery Lynne had discontinued carrying the " cuttlehug" medtal shim.For me i find that a paper shim does the trick for some very intricate dies, even better than the wax paper. But I guess a lot depends on the machine you are using and the age of it and your plates. I have a 4 year old cb with original plates still cutting memory box and more just fine.More intricate ones I may have to do one or two extra passes mothing more....so far.... so good.
I have a Big Shot that comes with two B plates. I got so tired of trying one piece of paper and adding another piece of paper until I got the shim right that I bought the metal cutting plate AND a C plate from the Cuttlebug supplies. When I use a thin die, I use a B plate, A plate, die (cutting side up), paper, metal shim and the C plate. Since I've done that, I never have to guess about how many shims to add and it always works. I do use repositionable tape on the die and paper in case I have to move it around on the A plate, though. Sometimes it's hard to find the "sweet spot". Hope this helps.
I have a collection of 30-or so Spellbinders- so probably as some do-I have been collecting-but not actually using right away. wellll-hmmmm LABELS 18 -NOT CUTTING on one side-ugh! of course when I am REALLY wanting to make a card with it and a Just Rite stamp. It seems not only is the largest not cutting but neither is the next size down. Looks like a bad batch-one side of die cuts and other doesn't. Have tried shims and different paper-is the die---UGH!! I am thinking I am going to need to send to Spellbinders-as will require much digging to find where this was purchased. Anyone run into this?? Darn-REALLY wanted to make this card!
You may have a bad die, BUT it could be your machine. Sometimes the rollers have different pressure on one spot. The rollers on my Cuttlebug are getting loose from so much use and sometimes a die won't cut on the edges . I just turn the paper with the die attached and complete the cut
I personally have never had a bad Spellbinder die , and I own a gazillion of them but I am sure it can happen.
Try taping the die to the card stock with removable tape or a Post -It Note.
Run it through your machine. Then turn the die to have the uncut part on the other side of the machine and run it through again see if it cuts .
If not call Spellbinders. They are great and stand behind their products

I know I have used my Labels 18, but I could not remember if I had used the largest die. I just cut the largest die and mine cuts perfectly with one pass through the machine

This is a sandwich I use and it's worked every time.
C plate
A plate
dye (face up)
cardstock
a piece of cardboard (I use a piece of cereal box)
B plate
I use same sandwich for my CB - but instead of the cardstock, I have a scrap piece of left over foam core poster board left over from making a Copic marker display - it works great as a shim for emblssing!! I do not use it for the die cutting.

Carry an unused dryer sheet (preferably unscented) in your tool kit. Rub it lightly over the cutting edge of the die before assembling your sandwich and you'll find that your cut design will come out of the die quite easily.

It is a bad die. I had a set of circles where the largest was dull on one side. I tired several machines, including a brand new Grand Calibur. You could see that the ridge on the dull side was not as raised as it should be. I hope you get them replaced.
BIG thank you to Spellbinders! I made cuts on my Grand Calibur and emailed pics-showing each of the dies had a corner not cutting all the way thru. They replaced them very promptly! Love all my Spellbinders!!! (did find out probably need to replace my Cuttlebug-which I love!! seems to be worn out! Good thing I have Big Shot and GC!)

Debbie, I just tried your wax paper trick with drawing paper and Nestabilities lattice rectangles in my Big Shot. It worked like a charm!!! Thanks for ending my frustration! Cheers, Suz
I have just been checking out a tutorial at U Cut at Home on the Matting basics dies A and B. These dies look like something I must have as I use matts a lot. What I found was confusing is that these dies are supposedly to be used for standard A2 cards. I though that A2 sized card was roughly 16" x 23"! Even if they mean doubled over it is still not what I would call an average sized card. What am I not getting here?
Jan, you're an Aussie like me and this got me too when I started, lol. A2 is the standard US card which is ever so slightly fatter and shorter than our A5 folded in half card. So the measurements are around 14cm x 11cm (that's a rough measurement. I'm too lazy to look it up).
And for the US ladies, our A2 card is much, much bigger than yours so that's where some confusion can creep in in tutorials. ;-)
