AUG08VSNE ~ Fri 9:00 PM ~ Bookbinding is a craft
Title: "Bookbinding is a Craft"
Hostess: austamper/Krista
Keyword: AUG08VSNE
Date/time: Friday, Aug. 22, 9 p.m. CST
Bookbinding is a Craft???
Quote:
The craft of bookbinding originated in India, where religious sutra were copied onto palm leaves with a metal stylus. The leaf was then dried and rubbed with ink, which would form a stain in the wound. The finished leaves were given numbers, and two long twines were threaded through each end through wooden boards. When closed, the excess twine would be wrapped around the boards to protect the leaves of the book . Buddhist monks took the idea through modern Persia, Afghanistan, and Iran, to China in the first century BC.

With this in mind, your challenge is to make a card or project using
twine (Hemp or other similar fibers are perfectly fine) as the key element.

Krista - so glad Fay held of "getting" you. This was a fun challenge. Not only did I incorporate the twine into my card, I learned to tie a lasso!

I LOVE using twine and such on Western cards! And they're great masculine cards which can be difficult for me. Thanks for a fun challenge!!!!

Hahahha! Well Fay is still coming, just hasn't hit yet. Luckily I think it'll be the outskirts of it and won't be anything more than rain.
I love your lasso!!!

Definitely something new for me. I started to use the SU hemp twine and thought, nah, I'll use this really cool "real" twine. Well as you can see, the consistency of the thickness is definitely not good for this technique - lol

Hi Krista, I tried to come here right and 9pm and SCS must have been down. Your challenge looks like fun, if only I had my mojo. Then again, somebody I know really needs a USuck card.................

I'm with you, Denise, I love hemp, and I love the price! I have natural, black and red. Though I use the natural the most, including on this card:

I had some hemp in pretty colors - orange, white, blue, yellow. I wanted to do something different. Here's my card:

Krista, I love the way my cards look when I use twine, but I usually hoard it. Thank you for this challenge to get me to use some of my stash. I actually used linen thread instead (which I also hoard), so I hope that's okay. I knew right away what I wanted to do, and I'm fairly pleased that it turned out almost exactly how I planned. A little bulkier than I thought it would be, but pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself.
Take a look
here .
