I want to buy some embossing paste, but I don't want to order online (I'm not ordering other stuff, so I don't want to pay shipping for just one item, plus I don't want to wait, LOL.) This afternoon I have a bit of time to stop at a craft store, but not all of them. Just wondering if anyone has seen it in one of these - if so, what department?
Not sure...but, I think I remember seeing it...in the art dept. with the canvases, oils, etc. But, I could be mistaken. I'm old and don't always remember correctly. Try giving them a call before you go.
You will probably find it in the art aisle. You might find "modeling/molding paste" instead, and that is virtually the same thing. You can even use a coupon; that's how I buy mine.
Or you could go to the hardware store and get some 'spackle' its the same stuff at a much much lower price. also I went to one of those shops that sells odds and ends cheap cheap cheap and got a set of plastic tools for spreading the paste $2.00 for 6 different styles, not bad at all. Sometimes its really worth checking out the dollar shops. With embossing paste I did a search on line 'what is embossing paste' and found out about the 'spackle'.

That's what I ended up getting at Hobby Lobby. They had a small jar, so with a coupon it wasn't expensive at all. Thanks for the info on looking in the art department.

I thought about trying that, but I was at two stores right near Hobby Lobby, and the nearest hardware store was at least 20 minutes away and then another 15 back to my house. I just went the HL coupon route, LOL.
I want to try something like this card from Jennifer McGuire's blog.
Also, the online card class I signed up for next week will use embossing paste, so I wanted to have some on hand.
Thanks for asking.
Btw, I spent most of my life in Pennsylvania - rural, west-central, PA. I miss the woods, and the hills and not needing to close the curtains at night. The part of Ohio we live in is FLAT and boring.

You're welcome. I'm glad you were able to find it - and use a coupon.

Hey Lisa - I'm from Western PA too - all of my family still lives back there, too. Mostly Armstrong and Butler Counties. I really miss the hills as well - the no sales tax on clothes and shoes was super nice too! We should get together and stamp sometime! I have very few "stampy" friends, LOL. Besides my 4-year old.... yes, that goes as well as you'd imagine.
Thanks for the tip on embossing paste! Julie Ebersole did some cool things with this stuff on Ellen Hutson's blog, and now I want to try it, too. I need to sign up for that online card class, if it's not too late.
Another Western PA stamper here! We moved to Pittsburgh (North Hills) last summer, and I LOVE it here. I've lived in a few different cities now, and I have to say that Pittsburgh folks are wonderful...so friendly, warm and welcoming. I've had more interesting conversations with complete strangers in the short time I've lived here than in my last city for all five years I was there!

What a coincidence! We lived further east, Clearfield County, along the interstate. You're right, the no tax on clothes, shoes was nice. I forget about that little bonus when I'm shopping back there.
I'd love to meet up and stamp some time. My kids are grown now, so I don't have "helpers" any more, LOL!

Too funny - most of my DH's family lives in North Hills, right off McKnight road. There's a stamp store around there, Stamp Fanci , have you ever been there? I'm going to try to coerce my hubby into going the next time we go visit. If you feel the need for a bit of a drive, Scrapbook Super Station in Butler is awesome. I'm hoping to get out there for my birthday - hopefully there's no snow in April...
Lisa - any time you'd like to get together just shoot me a PM! I live in Mantua (not as far as everyone thinks, just small enough to not realize it's there) but I'm in Hudson all the time as I work part-time at that Joann's (gotta support my habit!). We could even use one of their classrooms as a meetup place, if you know any others that would enjoy getting together. Did you use the modeling/embossing paste yet? Can you show us what you made?
I experimented a bit. This is the first full card I did (sorry it's oriented the wrong way in the photo). I love this stuff! It's really fun to work with.

Which stencil did you use? It is very pretty. Now I want to try that.
Pretty card! And I was mistaken, I saw modeling paste at Joann's when I was there the other night. I didn't see it the last time I looked. It's 12.99 for a jar, I think I might see if DH has some spackle first. LOL
Here is another idea -
I have the plastic stencil stuff that is sold to make stencils with the cricut. If you had some cartridges with generic, yet detailed designs, couldn't a person make their own? What about those old brass stencils that SU used to sell. Would those work?

I think any stencil would work, but make sure you tape it down good. Also it works better with small details. Like a swirl stencil works better than one with large circles. If your stencil is made of good material, it should work.
Me again. I just looked on line for spackle at Menard's and it is way inexpensive. There are many choices, though, but it would certainly be a cheap mistake.

My local Joann's didn't have any stencils in the paper crafting area, but I did find one in the quilting area for $5. I bought some spackle at the hardware store, so now I am ready to try this - as soon as I find a good work space.
