Default Distressing edges

If directions say to distress edges, what exactly does that mean?

I do that by running my Pampered Chef Pan Scraper along the edge. You can also do it with a bone folder or your finger nail.

Heidi Swapp came out with a tool for distressing edges. I am going to get it because I ruin my nails if I have a swap with distressed edges. The bone folder just isn't quite the same.

could you also do it by running a sanding block lightly along the edges? or is that called something else?

Memory Makers also has a tool to distress edges. You can either get it as part of a distressing kit, or by itself (usually only mail order, though).

I use my folding bone to distress the edges of my paper. I suppose it depends on what type of distressing you are looking for.

Here is a project I did using my bone folder to distress the edges of the mats...

bone folder, sanding block, nail, or hand it to a toddler, I have found that works well.

I have the Making Memories distressing tool. It basically has a razor blade set into a plastic wedge. You could probably just use a razor blade if you wanted to, but I think the tool is fun. It's only a couple of bucks. I got mine at AddictedtoRubberStamps.com They ship really fast and are great to do business with. If you get the tool, I've found that I like to scrape it at an angle, otherwise it slices into the paper too much.

This is an amazing distressing tool! A toddler can also distress your furniture, cabinets, etc, etc....... might just as well use them for your cardmaking!! LOL!!

I use my scissors. I've just started doing it. My nails are never long enough!

I have used the cutting side of a pair of my Cutter Bee scissors. I just hold the scissors open and run the blade against the side of the paper. With the same scissors, I also cut little notches and redistressed the notches. Here's an example:

I have been tempted to get the Making Memories tool though. They have it at a couple of local stamp/scrap stores for pretty cheap.

I have the pink edge distresser I picked up at my LSS. It's the best $.99 I've spent lately. I've tried a bunch of the other methods to distress, but I couldn't get them to work for me. <shrug> Maybe being one handed has something to do with it.

I just saw the pink distressing tool in the March Paper Crafts -- I'd never seen that one before -- good to know that it works. Can't wait to find one! I've been using my bone folder but I find that it doesn't distress enough for my taste --

I hate using my nails because my nails always end up getting distressed, too! I have weak nails so they tend to split easily. Anyway, I've used the bone folder but am going to start looking for the distressing tool. Glad I found this thread!

Has anyone purchased and used this product? Does it work well? Where did you purchase it?

Here's a link to what I'm referring to, in case you're interested:

Awhile back (a week or two), some brilliant person suggested using the PC orange peeling tool for this job...I grabbed mine from the kitchen and have been using it ever since.
