You could do something along these lines, no "picture" involved. Just patterns and a sentiment. No ribbon if you want to keep it a bit more masculine. Maybe a couple brads off to the left of the sentiment panel or underneath the sentiment.
Yep, wedding card style, maybe not flowery, but certainly something like gold or silver rings, blessings, best wishes, with love on your special day.....like that.

It's a wedding-type ceremony between 2 people who want to be committed for life to each other but for various reasons, can't have a traditional, legal, wedding performed.
The majority of the time it's because they live somewhere that does not allow same-sex marriages. Some of the time (a lot less common) it's between a man and a woman who for legal reasons can't get married (typically because one or the other is on state medicaid programs and will lose their medicaid if they get married, so they have a commitment ceremony instead)
It usually follows traditional wedding patterns - a ceremony, a cocktail hour, a reception, etc, and for all intents and purposes, the guests treat it as they would a typical wedding.
my BFF's son and his SO are having a commitment reception tomorrow and I need to make them a card.
I thought of using the the happiness always stamp (from Whimsical words) on the front but I don't know what else to put on the front...
suggestions?
I'd ask your BFF what their colors are for the event, and make something simple yet elegant using those colors. The "Happiness Always" stamp would be a great fit. You could wet or dry emboss a background, add a few layers in the other colors and the Happiness Always stamp, and inside put "Congrats" or something similar.
and also seniors (senior citizens I mean) sometimes do this, because they have benefits/pensions/health insurance/etc. based on their previous marriage or status.
My ex-boyfriend and his current "wife" did like this because it's not worth losing her benefits as a military widow, so they got married without a license...same deal.
Hope it goes well and your card turns out great!!
Probably a bit late to help but I favorited this card a while ago because it had the love and rainbow on it and I thought it would be perfect inspiration for a same sex commitment ceremony.
